How Elemental Defenses Work

Powder specials are additive

Braker is a good spell spear

Melee damage% is not calculated for neutral melee damage ID's

And Ele Def's are additive

Spell damage % is additive to spell damage multiplier, and neutral spell damage ID's are calculated on base spell multiplier.
(This also means raw spell is not dependent of negative spell damage %...if that is actually a concern)

(it's calculated at the same time as water damage ID's and does not affect healing)

(Druser's note at the bottom of this is also important, specialization in one defensive sp over another is technically superior but the difference is so small it could be considered negligible, and honestly boils down to personal preference, or perhaps one should consider investing more in defense as opposed to agility if they are using a fire weapon for instance, depending on the amount of free sp)

The higher your attack speed the less chance you have per hit to trigger lifesteal or mana steal

Spell damage % is more effective in high base damage weapons, and vice versa for neutral spell damage (Look at Endercomet's comment, it's the important one for this point. Here's a thread by Druser that explains this in more detail as well)

You get .5% healing effectiveness per 1% water damage up to 75% healing effectiveness (150% water damage)
(Also, thunder damage isn’t special, lol)

Negative spell cost ID's

EHP Calculator

Negative neutral spell damage subtracts from elemental damage
(also, weapon sp does not affect whether armor is wearable or not. The build was wearable with seipodon, it just looks unwearable due to The Nothing having negative int sp
Wynndata miscalculations can happen aswell though, but this is not a case of that)

So that's why life steal never works

 

Well, if you have high attacks speeds you actually still have a very good chance of procing lifesteal (per second), as long as you are meleeing often (basically, assuming you are using a melee build, not a spell spam build)

If you are meleeing infrequently, the slower the attack speed, the better.
