The Problem With The Community/staff Dynamic On Wynncraft

its meant to just show routine that they can communicate with us on a somewhat regular basis. doesn't have to be exactly that and that's also not the main point I'm making.

 

Just to clarify.
He meant it is a joke.
What he did is copy the message from Dr Zed and change a little bit here and there.

Still, it was a pretty bad joke. He did apologies for it later on.

Edit: Not saying that there weren't any staff that didn't do bad things. I remember seeing some CT/Mods being a little bit unrespectful something along the lines of "Deal with it, it's normal" "your 100% wrong" or just making a joke or ignoring the issue completely. Most of them was when the Hero Beta was out.

The context of @Dr Zed 's initial remarks were purely feedback. He felt the system was genuinely broken and Salted responded poorly. This was common around the time of the update. Yes it was twisting @Dr Zed 's words, but you can't say that without including them with context. So yes this is

I felt that this is already public knowledge, especially since most people are aware that @Dr Zed left the community after the incident, so I didn't PM them.

 

I also do think that it's a poorly response, but Salted did apologies.

I'm not here to say that Salted didn't do anything wrong, yes he did but he at least apologized.
There are a lot of other respons which were disrespectful from some of the CT without an apology, it's a fact.
I can probably find someone who did, but I wouldn't really want to go to the past to criticize someone.

Note: I want to be clear that I do agree that there are indeed some wrong doings from CT/Mods, but the example with Salted wasn't the perfect one, it's indeed a good proof, but he did apologized which I wanted to clarify to not get any misunderstanding.

He banned me for lying to a mod, because I added a sentence and forgot that I did.
In which he was obviously trying to stretch some fact in order to ban me.

 

So everyone is kind of ignoring the private message part. Which, while understandable, is also probably not going to endear Pepo.

I do feel like that one should be private. That one is less about the community and more about the lack of clarity on when an auction ended, which seems really odd to have banned someone over given it wasn't done aggressively, but interesting nonsequitur.

To be fair though it was a public happening, its not like its hidden or anything.

 

So, as a somewhat experienced young adult in life, and an experienced staff member on a couple other servers, I’d like to maybe tweak some of your ideas a little. You are onto something but there are a few pieces of the puzzle you’re missing. So the first thing I noticed was you mentioned inevitable hype and believe me when I say it is just that. Inevitable. It’s not the staffs fault, they say what they can, which is not much, and then players who decide to cream their pants over it fill in their own dots and bam, you have a whole update in someone’s mind ready to fuel the hype fires! In my experience the players looooooove to do this here, and rightfully so as it is an RPG experience. Secondly, let’s talk about radio silence. Mods are scared to talk about things because they’re honestly not sure what all they can talk about before getting admonished for it. This is supposed to prevent leaks, but what it does is actually far different. This just frustrates the line of communication between staff and players. I’ll give you an example of personal experience. I’ve applied for staff twice now. As we remember from times past, the staff team was a closed experience and very secretive. No one could even hope to get in without calling in favors. Now we have an application process that, in my opinion, is just as frustrating! You fill out an application and then you get an automated message confirming it was submitted and received by the team, but you are never contacted until you are accepted. Radio silence at its best. I write rather good applications, and so I expect criticism and feedback so I can improve as needed, but if it gets read and thrown out then I have no idea, so I’m just sitting here waiting, just hoping I can apply again but don’t know if I should wait or if something happened and I’m freaking out. After asking a staff member about it, they simply replied telling me it was submitted for sure and that ‘they could not tell me if it was denied because that’s just what their boss said :/‘ I wouldn’t blame the staff team, I would blame the rules that make the staff team scared to be open with their players. The players needs have changed, and so the rules must change with the times. If you’re going to investigate anything, work on messaging staff about changing the secrecy of player-staff processes such as content and staff applications. Thirdly let’s talk about the staff ‘treating the players badly’ and ‘the community is always right’ ..... dear Jesus.... the customer is NOT always right. I worked in retail and let me just tell you this triggers me a good bit. The customer comes in and buys groceries, rarely do they ever know how all the processes in the store works but the associates do, so leave it to the associates to help you figure it out the way we are told how to do it or go shop at another location pretty please with a cherry on top ;) trust us, we know what we’re doing, and if you come in and assume you know what we’re doing then you’re probably wrong and you’re better off asking why then asserting yourself, and then you should take our word for it and fit it in to your version of whatever reality is inside that melon of yours. Same with players. Aim to understand why things are the way they are because we staff are the bigger picture and are more in tune with it than you realize and we can’t reveal everything to you guys, sorry. Now if any staff member is being rude then that’s on the staff member, don’t blanket all staff members under one rude label just because one gets irritated and you had a bad experience once. Should a staff do something you think is wrong then report then. Good staff members will always give what they can with a smile :) if it’s not what you want... sorry :/
