I agree that something like this would work, but I feel like it would be pretty easy to instead make it so that as long as you are in a party with the group fighting the boss, the boss is guaranteed to drop enough tokens for everyone

This would be an issue because carries would become massively easier.

While I like the idea on paper (However I would change tanking from damage taken to the number of hits taken.)
The issue is it could also reward players of lesser skill. A bad mage, for example, one in which they simply need to spam heal themselves due to not knowing how else to deal with the damage, or simply someone who can't move out of the way of attacks on the tank side.

The other issue is that these two values of a flat number. A percent of hp is easier to do, but the amount of healing done/number of hits taken, would either need to be coded in differently for each and every boss or a stagnant number. This means you could be in a position from which a boss attacks very slowly, and due to this a tank would only need to take a small number of hits, unfortunately for him, a small number of hits doesn't get you a token.

The biggest issue however is this. The game simply doesn't support these builds enough. High DPS builds have the possibility of taking a boss out in a few minutes, maybe even seconds. This gives tanks, and supports, little to no opportunity to ever actually do anything, beyond just joining in on beating the shit of out of something.

As I said, I love the idea on paper and honestly, it would probably be fine if we had harder bosses that actually required people to play a tank and supporting role.
Until the jobs are actually required, I don't see this quite working out.

I'm going to guess you didn't mean to put that in quotes because I sure as hell didn't say it.
90% of all bosses in this game drop tokens.
And I'm not just saying that, here's a list of bosses.
    https://wynncraft.gamepedia.com/Bosses
Mind you, if it's listed under drops, and it isn't an armor piece, then its a token.

That literally means (When excluding dungeon bosses due to them having a holy original loot system) there are only 12 bosses, 12 bosses in the whole game that don't drop tokens.
If you can only think of 3 quests, then you're having a memory issue.
And you can't even debate that, I literally just copy and pasted the list of bosses.

I completely and totally agree with you on this one. Honestly in the current meta of the game, if a player has a good Cata or Divzer build and know how to use it, they pretty much invalidate the rest of the team. It's not really due to the amount of health compared to their absolutely insane damage (though it contributes) I think its more about not being able to hit them. Right now DPS's can go in and destroy a boss in seconds because the bosses can't do anything about it. If the bosses could hit back, the cata or divs would need to think carefully, or maybe need a support or tank to take all the damage and heal them. Also, right now Bosses are tunnel visioned. They're basically just one big bad with a lot of health and lots of spells and lots of damage, with a few trash minions littered around. If the damage of the bosses were spread a little bit better, DPS would need tanks and supports.

excuse me my powder-slapped crafted bow no cap does exceptiionally thank you very much

Actually though this is extremely annoying especially for multi-stage monsters with lower hp rather than a larger combined pool. I don't think I've ever run with a dedicated tank or healer and not had to defeat the boss multiple times so that they can get the item from it. +1

I voted no simply because this won't change anything. Just a message informing you whether you dealt enough damage to get a token or not which isn't really all that useful apart from clogging your chat if you're in ToA or Qira Hive.
