A tax system could be useful to combating inflation, but this needs to revamped. I'd recommend lowering the tax rate from 20% to 10%, and changing the way taxes are collected. One idea could be that taxes are optional, but if you don't pay them then you aren't allowed access to certain towns or shops or services until you pay them after not paying them a few times. That way new players aren't outraged when their emeralds seem to disappear for no reason. Or maybe their could just be simply fees like a bank transaction fee that would charge you a small amount of emeralds for taking emeralds out of your bank. Just throwing ideas.

A tax system would be the most simple form of a money sink, however much like the real world the taxes aren't just taken to regulate the economy but to give benefits to the people, and if you don't pay taxes there should be consequences.

    Benefits i'd suggest:

-Excess to most shops and other extremities.
-"Government" gifted items; the more tax collected, the better chances at a rarer item. Cannot recieve Normals or Mythics. These items tend to yeild more high stats. Gifted 24 hours after tax has been collected. This will fit your level range and will gift weapons accordingly. (IE if you don't play warrior you won't get a spear, but if your highest assassin is level 90 and your a 100 mage collecting the item you can still get daggers however fitting to the level 90 area).

I think the token system you suggest would be lack luster, unless a token obtained item can be viable in the endgame, it would be pointless to even use them. And it also can't just give you an item already in game because you gave money to the government; It would be unfair to just pick what you want,

    Consequences:

    -Cannot leave a town
-Blue tag mobs found in towns will attempt to take you to a sort of jail (no bank access, cannot trade as well, combating bank accounts and a possible loop hole to avoid the tax).

I was thinking about a sort of tax system for Wynncraft, however couldn't nail what incentive there should be if one were to be implemented. This is one of the easiest ways to combat inflation, not that it suddenly stops, but it's more gradual and slower relativly speaking.

I was reading this thread, and I was like, eh, if only you had harsher rules. Then again, this is stupid, how about the poor, they will become poorer, and the richer, although becoming poorer, will still be somewhat rich. I guess it is an okay idea, if only it was like 1%-7% taxes. 20% is like, 1/5 of your money, or if you have 10 LE, you will have to pay 2 LE, and keep only 8 LE, until you are bankrupt, so no, I do not like this idea at the moment.

Oh wait, weren't you the person with that other really stupid idea?

P.S. This is a medieval fantasy times, when there were dragons and sh*t like that... Did they really have taxes (yeah they did), but this is fantasy, and in fantasy, we don't pay taxes. And, are you Timmy Tod the Tax Collector?

The thing is that IRL taxation works differently, you pay more the more you have/earn.
Any IRL taxation doesn't remove money from circulation.
Also having one stupid idea doesn't mean you can automatically rule out this idea, that's a logical fallacy

A better idea for taxation by the way, charge a fee for exchanging currency.
Ex Emeralds -> emerald blocks costs more than 64 emeralds.
Same with the emerald blocks -> LE
And bank fees, nothing over time for storing, but withdrawing could perhaps charge you a % of what you have left.

I anticipate a rush to buy mythics at the end of each month, as they can't be taxed like emeralds. People may end up buying mythics at the beginning of the month to then sell at the end for a profit, taking advantage of the demand changes. I'm not sure whether this is good or bad though. I also think people might try to find ways of hiding their emeralds, maybe dropping them on the floor just as tax is collected and picking them up just afterwards, in order to protect them from tax. The system would have to be very cleverly designed to stop this sort of thing.

    Yes, we do.
Everyone started out like that at one point, and no suggestion is a perfect one.
But if those authors get such feedback they'll just feel disrespected and might never contribute again.

Yeah but everyone needs criticism, my suggestions weren't that good (not as bad as this :P) and I got criticized A LOT, I almost quit wynn because of it. But I didn't, I took that criticism and improved on the idea, then it got closed for necro....But hey at least I improved and because of that I'm working on a suggestion for the future. Telling someone with a bad suggestion "good suggestion" would make them stick to what it is....

I'm pretty sure the only way this will balance the economy is by making everyone broke. Also all it would do is cause everyone to spend all their money when tax season comes around, then sell the items they buy afterwards. And if people can't get on to put their emeralds in their bank...

I agree, and I didn't mean to say that criticism shouldn't be allowed. It's actually the best thing one can do, no matter the quality of the suggestion.
But what shouldn't be done is blatantly insulting & mocking the author and their suggestion, and there's already been too much of it in this thread.

Criticism should criticize the suggestion, not the person who wrote it. You're not posting criticism, you're just being rude. His previous posts shouldn't matter.

Well I see what you mean. I'm not saying they suck at suggestions I'm saying that this specific one most likely won't be implemented due to the fact that in certain scenarios it could destroy a player's bank

Then that's what you should tell the author; not blaming you, but some others simply ignored that part and were plain rude.

I mean, this is the second suggestion of his that's been pretty bad, but that's besides the point

In any case, here's the thing: rather than make your players feel like their being robbed, why not just lower drop rates of emeralds in the first place?
Not that this would fix the economy or anything, but logically people would be a lot happier with that than with a feature that literally just steals their money.

I think everything else that needs to be said has been said.
