This is actually pretty good/usefull.
Having the ability to swap yourself over instead off having to type /g every time you want to say something to your guild could be pretty helpful

While I understand wanting to add this as it reaches more people, however this would clutter the chat log. Also, this would eliminate the need for shouts and lower the income the server gets. Lastly, it seems like a hassle. For example if you're trying to sell something in Detlas and someone messages you, you would have to switch back and forth between /global chat and /message chat. Not to mention having multiple private messages.

 

+1. Add a /general command to switch tk regular chat.

 

At first glance, I nearly laughed at the suggestion, as location-specific chat not only makes the game more realistic, but also more tolerable in the event of spam and full servers.
However, I checked the post and thought that the simple option to use global chat would be an interesting and useful thing to have.

- But -, something to keep in mind is that if /global were added, shouting would lose a very, very large chunk of its value.

 

Thanks for your feedback! However, I feel that you're sorely mistaken in your judgement.

First, my proposed suggestion would not clutter the chat log. I'm not quite sure what you're trying to criticize here, but the suggestion won't increase or decrease the amount of chat experienced in game. It merely allows you to switch chat lanes so that what you type in chat will move to either global, party, message, or guild channels. Chats from all channels will still remain visible, identical to the current communications system within Wynncraft today. Therefore nothing would become cluttered; in fact, no aspect about the visible chat log would change.

Additionally, you might have mistaken the "global chat" for shouts. I admit that the poor wording could lead to some misinterpretation, but global chat simply means the standard chat in Wynncraft. Thus, shouts would still remain viable in communicating between servers. (@Durabilities you made a similar point).

Concerning your point on trading and the interference of communication, the commands of /msg and /r will still be available. You could switch to the standard chat for Detlas trade by using /global chat, and then message others with /msg and and /r. This is identical to our current situation in Wynn and would not intrude on communication.

Lastly, you won't even have the capability to hold several private messages. I'm assuming that you're describing the command /message chat [username], which sets your entered chat automatically into private messages with another specific individual, not multiple. You could easily continue to communicate with others through /msg and /r or switch to other chats if necessary.

Overall if I'm correct, you're thinking that switching chat lanes will cause the chat log to display only one type of chat. However, the suggestion will not prevent you from seeing other chats, but rather allow you to set your normally entered chat to different lanes. This removes the inconveniences of /p, /r, /g, etc in drawn out conversations.

This idea should really be added to the game. The number of times that my friend said At what time will we kill ishfen? followed by whoops sorry wrong chat is truly .... Terrifying. Please salted ;-;

should be just one command like
/chat global
/chat party
/chat guild
and /msg <username>
for msg just that person

I think it would be better if you could just do /chat and it would open a GUI or clickable text in chat to select your chat mode.
