    I interpreted the post as more of a "Hey, it'd be cool for characters to acknowledge the player's unique capabilities", so that it adds a little replayability.

    And by not-canon does he mean the ability isn't actually "Corruption", but merely simulating its effects?

    Archetypes are mostly just gameplay stuff and are not actually canon. They have elements from the story to make them feel better part of the game, but a mage isn't going to be able to be a Lightbender without meeting Orphion, Fallen would straight up die, and sharpshooter would probably have to meet marius or something.
