salted just jealous that shoutbox is hotter than discord.

On a serious note, the fact that this was removed without warning is pretty stupid. I'd be less disappointed if Wynn had announced this with an actual reason rather than quietly removing it without reason. I've met so many of my friends on Wynn through the SB and made so many memories. To see it deleted is one thing, but to see something that has provided the community with tons of memories deleted without notice is really disappointing. While yes people didn't as often as before, that doesn't mean it was completely dead. I and others still used the shoutbox to the very end. As for the arguement that the general section in the discord is a lot like the sb, the one thing they have in common is that they're both very dead (atleast for me). I rarely use the Wynn discord or discord in general, but when I do I find the general section to be as dead as the sb was. If people do use discord more than the sb you may as well get rid of the help section and trade sections on the forums too since people "use discord more" and there will be higher chances of a more frequent response.

Chances are the sb won't return, and I'll just have to accept that. But at least I stayed with it towards the end.

 

I can understand the frustration with the loss of the shoutbox, especially without warning. We underestimated the reaction people would have to the loss of the shoutbox. Because, from everything we've observed over the last few months, the shoutbox was barely active. Three years ago, if you scrolled up to the top of the shoutbox, you'd only go back a few hours. But a week ago, scrolling up to the top would take you back up to a few days. The shoutbox's use has majorly declined over the last few years to the point where it didn't even seem like many would care it was gone.

I understand many of you had fond memories of the shoutbox, myself included, so I can definitely understand why many people are upset over it being removed so suddenly. As I said, we didn't really expect such a huge reaction due to the major decline of usage. However, this does not mean we intend to go back on that decision, either. Our official Discord server has provided most of the utility of the shoutbox and more.

Many of you have brought up one aspect of the shoutbox that our Discord server doesn't have, though, which is the ability to show new threads that have been posted. Though the "New Posts" tab does provide similar benefits, it definitely still isn't the same. This is admittedly a feature we'd like to come back in some capacity, but there are no guarantees at this time.

Also, what about the people who can't/don't want to use discord? We just screwed over I guess?

You don't throw out an old hammer just because you get a new, shinier one. There's no excuse for doing that to something a hundred thousand times more important.

 

Discord is always filled with crazy, regardless of the community. It's the one constant I've noticed, even between some of the vastly different communities that I'm involved in.

 

Yeah, I just hate those discord people! My brother @Wynnooblet used to live on discord until he was (luckily) banned, he was a really weird one...

May I just ask why - even if it was seldom used - the Shoutbox and Discord can't co-exist? You recognise the utility it served and the sentimental value it had towards the community, yet you refuse to add it back just because the discord is supposedly the same? What if the Discord goes down? They're known to have outages from time to time and I remember players flocking to the SB when Wynncraft's own servers went down a few times to ask what happened.

I really don't see what drawback keeping the SB on the forums has, as the only argument is that 'Discord is the same' which has been repeated about three times now and no other argument has been presented. Inversely, many arguments have been presented as for why the SB should've stayed by various members of the community - some of which who have been here since the early days.

 

jumping on this to keep the strongest argument alive and clear:

no matter how similar Discord may be, that in no way necessitates the removal of the shoutbox. Any ideas of discord serving the same purpose, whether correct or not, are irrelevant, and don't give reason to the removal.

Funny you mention that becouse the Dicord server are really buggy right now for me, and I have issues connecting.
