The shoutbox was getting old and had run its course. There's nothing left for it except putting it out of its misery.

 

the only misery to be had in the shoutbox is your own. anyone can choose to avoid it if they want.

there is no reason to remove it outright. great games have player freedom and the forums should too.

Except forums =/= great games. What "freedom" do great games even have to justify having the same "freedom" on these forums?

 

great games give you more than one way to accomplish something.

that whole analogy isn't the point: the point is that there isn't a reason to get rid of the shoutbox. anyone who doesn't like it doesn't need to interact with it ever. but to take it away only punishes the people who do enjoy it, while benefiting nobody.

it's not complicated.

 

Instead of arguing, we should really be paying respects to our fallen ally. We can only hope our plight for it's re-addition will be listened to, but we should assume the worst.
