You guys ain't gonna be a fan of that answer but I still feel like I should post it so you know we ain't ignoring this feedback.

That rule was added by my request for mostly two reasons:

#1 People were progressively posting subpar content with the obvious motive to promote and/or increase their influence through their Discord server. It didn't get too out of hand yet, but it was starting to look like this:

Obviously it's quite a bit exagerated and not precise at all, but you get the idea. This is the whole reason why advertising rules exists, to avoid this kind of stuff being the usual and to lower the workload for mods.

#2 Discord isn't guaranteed to be curated at all and any player could be literally 2 clicks away from Wynncraft to some porn shit (or worse) by clicking an invite. Other platforms don't have this issue, such as Youtube where it's quite rare to find content like that. And if you think people wouldn't do that, a few days ago someone bought a MC account and shout bombs (spending real money) just to shout the N-word on the network. These kind of people do exist and we don't wanna make it even easier for them to mess with people. You guys reading this are likely mature and old enough to get it, but not everyone is.

I also want to highlight that no other network of our size allow Discord links either. In fact they often don't even allow youtube links or anything else. They also don't always let people write "DM me for the discord invite" either, but we do. It's a bit of a pain for people to send invites manually, I get that, but it still allows to make Discord communities.

Some questions I saw before and I'm sure some are thinking right now:

Why not review every single discord link people want to post?
Gigantic pain to manage and won't fully resolve the previous issues I mentioned. Peeps will still spam that link anytime they can and they can still
change the content of the discord after its been reviewed. In fact, that would be even way worse as it would look like mods approved it. Also we have no tools to auto-censor/auto-whitelist invite links which would add even more work to make this possible, or force us to keep track of every approved servers which will get out of hand real fast.

Why not let guilds use Discord invite only?
Because guilds were just as much abusing reason #1 than anyone else. And even then, eventually over time people would start to make guilds with the only purpose to invite people to their discord server, forcing us to revisit the rule yet again. I don't really see the need to invite hundreds of people to your guild's discord who aren't even guild members. We definitely offer enough messaging tools for you guys to contact new members and send them the invite manually if needed. I personally think it's fair, this is how the Content Team itself work and always worked. We only send an invite to our CT discord manually to people we accept.

These reasons were said in the original thread where we announced the rule. But we didn't go in depth enough about the specifics, that's our bad. I'm sure this wasn't the response you guys really wanted, but I wanted to be very clear this time about why we made this change and why we don't plan to roll it back for now. Also please don't blame mods for this, it was my decision, not theirs.
