    Cool idea, but not practical.

As said above, there are many reasons that this wouldn't be great to implement. It breaks immersion, to begin with.

If you want to highly reduce the risk of dropping the wrong item into a hopper, try getting rid of your drop key entirely. This way, you'll have to open you inventory and manually drag and drop the items out of your inventory.

    Thanks!

As CylinderKnot already said, it can be very difficult to open you inventory and throw the item before you are pummeled my mobs.

That's Understandable, and while it is an inconvenience, you could always use a blinding spell/KB spell such as Bash, War Scream, Ice Snake, Teleport, Smoke bomb, Invisiblity and arrow shield, then whilst mobs are stunned, put items into said hopper.

Or yknow, they could just build a workaround with completely vanilla minecraft features: no having to add NPCs or alter the server code, cuz it seems even the Staff themselves have said those ara no-go. This would center around a /testfor command block to take the place of item-hopper interaction, solving three problems: losing unintended items, getting attacked by mobs in the process, AND hoppers getting clogged.

Have an button/plate, etc at a /testfor (the items needed to make a signal) command block to detect if the player who triggers the input has the needed items in inventory, hooked up to two more command blocks: a /clear ( to take the items away) command and some other command block that activates the door/device in response to the item detection from the first command block. I found a way to use the /summon command for this. Put a hopper with a block of empty air above it (concealed from view of course), hook it up to the device the players' items want to activate, and set the coords of the /summon command to that empty space. (the item to summon can be anything) This would take the place of the "keyhole hopper" involved in taking the items needed, and would have few issues in terms of lag factor or complexity.

I know it sounds complicated explain in-writing, but really it's just activating a "token-taking" door or other device in Wynncraft through 3 command blocks and small redstone instead ofa hopper that people could clog up or lose items in. maybe I'll make a separate thread about this and use screenshots to explain this way easier, because its not as complex as it may seem in words.

What about lower level dungeons? Your spells are not as powerful, which means that spells like Bash don't stun. Having lack of spell power that keeps mobs at bay for more than a few seconds makes the very first room of Infested Pit an absolute NIGHTMARE to pass. You're trying to throw the tokens into the hopper, but your weak spells have trouble keeping the spiders at bay. You get thrown around like a ragdoll!

Most of what the developer team uses to make the game is made from mods. If they can add magic spells and element damage to a building block game, this should be a walk in the park.

They use redstone to make buttons open doors and use /say command blocks for most of the special chat dialogues, so unless I assume wrong; they use mods for things like spells and elements, but mods have nothing to do with the hoppers in quests and dungeons that take items to activate stuff. So to your point I'd say why not use thebasic building capabilities of Minecraft to make a workaround to the hopper system?

The devs' primary counterargument to replacing hoppers with NPC's is that they dont want to/don't know how to mingle with the server code to make it possible. This idea I'm developing, if it'll work, doesn't need to mess with any of that and eliminates the complaints in the dozens and dozens of "replace hoppers with" threads like this one.

And I totally agree! The reason why there is not a fix yet is beyond me, though I've passed the message on to higher management.
