Having quests get 2x from bombs made it even way more stupid and overpowered then current grinding/dungeon running. You could do hive and get a max like 13 mil xp. (Scales with level so you get 13 mil as 95-10) That's stupid insane and also that made it where everybody only finished their quests when bombs appeared which is halting the progress of players until a bomb appears. So no grinding was not bettee with 2x xp with quests.

So is it bad that grinding was faster or slower? If it's overpowered then it implies it's fast, but then it's slow because you must wait? Okay then.

No it was bad that it basically forced you to stop playing and finish a quest until a double xp happened, its overall slower grinding because you usually had to wait a while for double xp.

Okay at least you’re consistent here. If you wanted to optimize it yes you’d wait for double xp, but that was completely optional and in that just before Gavel window it was fairly easy to get a class to 75 with all the insane grinding spots. The only real quests that were worth waiting for double exp on then were the few higher level ones.

The main thing is, you had to pretty much sit on quests waiting for double xp, cause it felt super bad to just throw away double quest xp, so pretty much progression was halted until you ran into dxp to turn in some quests. The reason it felt that bad was because grinding the "normal" method was so tedious.

So yeah, using dxp on quests was "optimal" but the way that it forced people to play kinda ruined the experience. It got removed for a reason.

Also, what insane grinding spots. The 60-68 stretch was a nightmare. You were stuck in the old dead miner cave until herb cave got added, and the 68-75 stretch was worse after Enderman Island got removed and ToL got nerfed.

This was one of the main faults of old Wynn, yeah

To be fair to OP, we did have dungeons and lots of quests in the old Wynn too. And if you did all of them on DXP (groan) you could easily use 'em to get to at least 73, and dungeons solved the rest of your xp problems.

Dungeon bombs didn't exist. Mass running dungeons for xp wasn't a thing.

Also, the highest level dungeon at the time was the jungle mini-dungeon at lvl 60. Idk what dungeons you ran to get to 75 lol.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the pre-gavel dungeons always gave a set amount of xp. Level 60 isn't too far off, only 15 levels. Corrupted sand-swept tomb is 15 levels off 101, and people used to run that all the time!

I mean they did. That's how all dungeons work.

I'm pretty sure they adjusted the xp needed per level after Gavel, and that CSST gives more of xp for its level. It was a mini-dungeon, and it didn't give that much for its level.

If you played back then, idk how you got the idea that people mass ran dungeons for xp. It was viable for like levels 1-50.

I started playing 5 years ago, but I only ever got to level 65 in the old Wynn, and funnily enough I actually mostly did the ocean dungeon, which I kinda remember giving good xp. I think it was for level 50, but I still managed to get a load of xp from it somehow

ToL got nerfed hard, then it got buffed to where leveling was really easy. I forget the exact route I used for leveling, but I think it was something like this. Get a few levels from just outside Ragni, then pigman cave, then just outside detlas, then nemract grave area, then just outside almuji, then cave between Nemract area and ToA, then small herb cave, then large herb cave, then herb cave + quests, then complete ToL and grind in there, then do Bob's quest. Using double exp for quests and the 60-68 grinding mostly. That let me get to 75 in a very short amount of time.

I mean I didn't mind slow playing it, but I knew how to blitz it by a few classes in. I mean once my friend who quit at 45 I said I'd get him to 75 and did it in a few days for fun lol. Right before Gavel it was insanely easy to level up, but the time it takes to get to 104 isn't really a reason I don't like Gavel (although 103 to 104 is just an excessive jump).

and thats why leveling was even more effortless then now. Double xp quests give you like 20 dungeon runs at once, which takes a lot less effort then spamming dungeons or farming dragonling for 4 hours. Leveling was way fucking easier back then.

Post Gavel, I almost level exclusively with quests, and I could get to the 80s with reasonably little grinding before I just ran CSST. At that point, I still had quests left over, so I'd say quests could get you high 80s, maybe even into the 90s with the new quests. There is at least one quest for every level.

Quests pre-gavel were a lot more sparse, and there were more points where you had to just dry grind for 3-4 levels. For some people, ik grinding is more enjoyable than quests, but it gets tedious for a lot of people. Not to mention, quest quality has definitely improved after Gavel.

Leveling was a lot, lot harder back then. Quests were far and few, gave less xp than they do now (without dxp) mobs gave less and it just took a lot longer to level up. It was not easier back then at all

Dungeons existed btw and overall in pregavel you only had 75 lvls and when early gavel rolled around you had still 3 less levels and quests with dxp that gave 13 mil xp (hive) Also more dungeons (csst especially)

In a more realistic sense with nostalgia goggles off, leveling is harder now then back then.

Dungeons in old Wynn were terrible compared to running CSST now, a lot less xp and took longer to beat.

Oh yes well you know right before Gavel is what I'm aiming for, but uhh I'd prefer pre-Ocean over current Wynn anyday
