World How To Fix Cotl For 1.20

    Ah yes. Canyon of the lost. The WORST PLACE IN THE GAME. I hate this area. So much. I am already bored on my shaman because I made it there. The issue with the canyon is that you are in an already maze-like province, so when they introduce an area that is MADE to be mazelike, it becomes atrocious. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE. 1.20 is focused on mid-late game content so it's the perfect time to make this hell better. Here are some ways to fix this:

    1: Mortal Mountain
    For the shortest timespan of not even a full update, there were 4 mini dungeons in CotL. These were the Earth, Water, Fire and Air mini dungeons. Their mission? To teach players about the new elements alongside the Hive. They were found in CotL because that would be where former endgame players would rush to, and didn't have much of a challenge to them. They were removed in The Gameplay Update, which technically was a patch for the Gavel Expansion seeing as it was 1.14.1. They were removed and for 3 years there was a new dungeon in the works. A replacement for each mini dungeon, the Mortal Mountain. Sadly it was cancelled last year, but it could still come. Why am I mentioning this? You'll see...

    2: Better fast travel
    The problem with CotL is the navigation. There are 2 quests that unlock fast travels of sorts, but it only cuts through to Molten Heights. I say we change this. Introducing the CANYON TUNNELS! To unlock these, you must defeat Mortal Mountain at least once. It would work similarly to the Nexus and the unlocked exit to EO. You would not be able to enter until defeating MM, and from within there are entrances to: Thanos, The Hive, The Dojo, Bantisu Air Temple, Thesead and Eltom. At level 90 you unlock a tunnel to the statue that allows you to get to Kandon-Beda fast. Each piece of travel would cost you a small fee of emeralds, but would be great to have. MM would have to be really hard for this, but I'll take that over aimlessly riding my horse through the canyon. Another change would be that a parkour past the gatehouse from A Marauder's Dues would be added, so that the gatehouse isn't just a pain to have to unlock.

    3: Improve grinding in the area
    I think the thing I like least about this area is the very little good grind spots. On both of my playthroughs so far I have hated this point in the game because of the grind spots. The only one I know the name of is Bandit's Toll. This used to be a GODLY grindspot. The cannonarms could probably one-shot you so it was a multiplayer grindspot but you could use the tents to hide from those and easily kill the weak other mobs. Each kill gave you like 8000-9000 exp so it had to be nerfed. However, this is an example of a nerf done pretty badly. They removed every tent in the arena (which makes sense) and reduced the exp given from bandits in the area to 3000-4000. Now I was thinking ''well now its just a herb cave sort of singleplayer grind spot, right? This would have been good, but the cannonarm still does like 1000 damage per hit and is a rapid fire attacker so he can quickly kill you. This isn't a great multiplayer grindspot unless you have somebody who is hosting a party, using a mob totem, and throwing exp bombs every 20 minutes. So I was like: Okay, let's look for a new one. I saw through a wall once that there was another bandit based grindspot in the canyon with grind mobs and all, but I couldn't find the entrance. Plus, I hit a mob through the wall (i was on my shaman) and saw that it had 10k health. This was just ANOTHER multiplayer grindspot. I looked on the wiki for grind mobs, but FOR SOME STUPID REASON, the person who is supposed to list them all (and has done a great job at it) completely forgot/ left out COTL. Now that isn't the CT's fault, but it still bugs me. I would like if grind spots were more obvious and if there were more singleplayer grind spots.

    4: Improve ''The Canyon Guides''
    One of the most hated quests in the game, this quest is all about guiding a man named Seluc through the canyon. The quest is outdated and incredibly difficult. It should be changed to just be one big escort segment like the Aledar Cart part in AJB and he has 3 lives. The only mobs around would be quest exclusive. This would make the quest a lot better. I am actually going to skip this quest on my shaman because of how annoying it is. I got SO lucky on my mage and somehow kept him alive at like 825 hp for like 5 minutes on my first and only attempt at the quest. I do not want to do it again and it should be changed or removed.

    5: Ability to create shortcuts through mountains with mining
    There should be weak points in the cliffs that allow you to spend about 20 seconds mining through the side to get to the other end faster. This teaches professions to later game players who missed out on the update. Requires a pickaxe (no matter what tier)

    I don't really think there's too much of a problem with COTL, I quite enjoy the region, the builds are great, it's more of just removing the bs borders around cotl, the area is quite nice to just explore around and such and doesn't need a major change (apart from the lost)

    The quests are the area they need to improve on. Most of them are extremely outdated. Also, the canyon is supposed to be a maze. It's the whole point. Adding all this stuff would remove the purpose of it being a maze

    Canyon Guides. Delete it. Get rid of it. Make it cease to exist. Bantisu Monks should've asked someone else to get this coward to the temple.

    Mortal Mountain was scrapped, though knowing this is CT, they might be working on something else for Gavel. Who knows? Maybe it might be Mortal Mountain v2 for all we know.

    For the 2nd suggestion, CotL was supposed to be a maze-like landscape. Which it fulfills quite nicely. The navigation is a problem indeed, but fortunately it doesn't shift around (and once you memorize the entire thing, it's not that hard to navigate). The worse issue with CotL is the quality of the quests (though Beyond the Grave is indeed an interesting case that should be further expanded on).

    cotl was cancer on my first class, but after that it’s fine and not too hard to navigate. I've even begun to like it.

    the dragon could just be annoying

    The only issues I have with CotL is how long it takes to get anywhere in there, with the exception of the main road. Like seriously, I get that it's mean to be inconvenient, but by golly does it ever sap my patience to try to follow established roads in there.

    guys remember that cotl means canyon of the fucking lost there is a reason that it is mazelike, which is some nice worldbuilding

    it's actually a very aesthetically pleasing area, and i don't really mind going through it, especially because of how nice the settlements look.

    mortal mountain and other gavel dungeons would be fine i guess, but i would prefer dev time going into other things, personally, but i don't mind seeing gavel dungeon suggestions. as long as they are though out and well-made. which, i gotta be honest, this one isn't, unless we're going off the idea that they already had most of the content and just need to release it.

    i wouldn't mind nexus-esque fast travel, but i feel like a quest might be a better unlock. maybe a canyon guides rework?

    canyon dragon seems extraordinarily random, would break a ton of existing lore (see: thanos/ozoth) and seems like an unnecessary tax on resources and dev time.

    canyon guides need to change. i would like to see a full rework, but just improving seluc's ai would be a great help to the quest.

    nope. not at all. professions should not give benefits like that. it's already annoying as fuck that that silent expanse discovery needs gathering levels at all, even if it is only 10, and putting a quality of life feature to one of the most hated areas in the game locked behind a level 80 gathering profession grindwall is honestly a pretty terrible idea.

    I think the reason you made this thread might be similar to why there aren't on wiki. You can go to wiki discord and either bring it up or take the picture yourself and submit them (which would be incredibly helpful)

    my favorite grind spot in the cotl is Scarub Cave. Not a lof of people know about this grind spot because it is well hidden in a cave at 35 , -4740. it is great because the mobs are 84 and dont have a ranged attack. As long as you have decent gear this can be a single person grind spot but the exp is really fast with a shaman support. Well now that the secret is out, expect a slight nerf to scarub cave but i really hope not... This is the only viable grindspot left besides gelibord prison cave directly north of geli.

    BONUS: I can guarantee that everyone who is writing this suggestion off knows the canyon of the lost by heart. That is great, but it takes a while of going back and fourth to learn all of the routes, especially for someone on their first playthrough. I have a challenge for anyone that is up for it, and this challenge could actually help. Pull up the wynncraft map and draw a line through the start of cotl to the end of COTL. bonus points if it is all the way to Rodoroc and through sky where it ends off. I bet most of you can't. Also more bonus points if it isnt through the toll gate thingy!

    Sky depends on your class. For mage (and warrior i think) you can just movement spell from island to island. Other classes have to follow the BS signs that lie to you and their movement spell doesn't allow them to fly. The way to do it is to find landmarks (Astraulus' tower, mirror cave, etc) and find what direction each other thing is in. Gets easy after a while (although that's a longer time than CotL so I see your point)
