The id will also still buff other classes, placing Mage at a weaker starting point melee-wise.

On the other hand, Mage has op heals and spell. With mana regen and int, mages don't have to use melee though, so in a sense, it's low melee is ignored, causing it to be op.

i get that spell damage is the best route for mage, but it still does melee damage

By no melee damage, they meant comparatively less. Its just a hyperbola.
