This suggestion mostly concerns quests with areas that chain into other quest areas. For example, if you die in Shattered Minds at any point, you have to do the entire quest all over again.

How it would be changed, you ask?

At any point in the quest, if you die and/or use a Teleport scroll to get out, the game will check the Quest Book progress to see in which part of the quest you were on before you died. The game will also set local checkpoints to respawn you there instead of all the way back at a town (because we know how disgustingly broken the respawn system is!). Obviously, this depends on the quest.

NOTE: Using /kill will boot you out of the quest and will instead put you at the nearest town you've entered a quest area from. When you get back in, you will continue where you left off rather than the very beginning of it - unless you completed the quest in which case you're put back into the beginning anyway.

In Memory Paranoia, for example, if you die when you were supposed to get out of the mansion, the game will put you at the scene where the mansion is burning rather than at the very beginning (when you complete the quest, you'll be put at the beginning instead since the quest is completed and there's no checkpoints set).

In Shattered Minds, if you die at any point in the quest during your mushroom-fueled delirium, you will respawn in Efilim - you will then have to interact with the large mushroom from an earlier point in the quest (read: when you start feeling strange and go into the castle) to be transported back to the stage of the quest you died in. Seems awkward, but it works.

In Craftmas Chaos, going into Santa's fireplace will, depending on your progress, put you into either Past Selchar or Future Selchar.

The list can be expanded, with different quests having different checkpoints or set return areas depending on progress.

What if I want to get out of the quest but have no scrolls? I would be stuck respawning in the quest.

...yeah, because /kill exists and I definitely did not account for this.

To be fair, most sane people would try and finish the quest to completion. I'll change that in a bit.
