It's balanced after all spells and upgrades are unlocked and the player has good armour, but early game it is quite difficult compared to other classes (maybe not all though).

Yes it sucks. But that is why I love it so much. The early game is so easy... its almost impossible to die with any other class. Mage makes the early game more fun and once you get to a higher level you get super op and thank god for having a heal spell.

Your argument with Meteor's good, but this is EARLY Mage Succ for a reason. As in, before the 50s. When Meso's not available.

Teleport dodging - Even with Teleport, it simply eats up your Mana without warping you if you're too close to a wall. Plus, what if it's cancelled while you're in a pinch? There's no time to pop Heal if you miss the Teleport, and even then, Heal sucks in early game. Teleport is terrible in tight spaces (lookin' at your cave, Aracadius!), and if you make one mistake, you're likely toast.

A melee attack which is the best in the game. Despite lacking damage, and being hard to land.

...When for almost the entire early game, you have no attack spells to back it up.

...Sure, it's the best, and Hypixel Skyblock isn't grindy, too!

The damage is low, but it's anything but hard to land, being something like a 10-12 block straight line of instantly-everything-gets-hit-in-front-of-your-cursor. If you use stuff like raw melee(which does exist early on) you'll find that Mage damage can really rack up fast. The basic attack absolutely carries Mage until you learn Meteor, and while Heal isn't amazing early on, it's a nice supplement to potions. The fact that Mage's damage % is balanced for the amount of damage that basic weapons have means that buffing it is not really feasible to do. Additionally, making Mage's first spell be Ice Snake contradicts a later quest- in that, a Mage uses Ice Snake to break down a molten wall, making reference that the spells need to be more advanced to deal with the corruption. At that point, you're Lv 21, so the fact that you can't use Ice Snake yet is actually a plot point. I recall that in the tutorial you DO use Heal to make the Guard strong enough to break the boulder, so that's not a concern, I think you just misremembered that...Meteor's auto-aim is both necessary and a hindrance, so the little "aim" throw is an interesting idea, but it makes the spell overall slower to act...and that can be a problem in the endgame, where Mage falls behind due to the fact that its primary DPS spell is locked behind an activation time, which this would elongate.

tl;dr I can see where you're coming from, but some of it is just not solutions that will actually help, some of it is just needing to get used to the class, I feel.

It's by far the easiest melee to land, and as Selvut pointed out, its massive hitbox allows you to stack up damage on a large number of foes rapidly. Only shaman is remotely able to compete with that, and it has to be at nearly point-blank range to do full damage. It has something like 4 times the range or warrior or assassin, a much larger area of effect than archer and can pierce through enemies, and unlike shaman, the damage isn't split up over three separate streams, reducing your damage at a range. While melee mage generally has lower dps than other classes, I'd rank it easily among the most powerful builds possible.

Not to sound rude but this is flat out false. Mage at high lvl is almost unkillable due to the fact that you have THEE best heal ingame, you can slow and end your enemy within accouple hits while also being ranged. While Archer is the best pvp in my opinion, mage takes second place (RIP warrior pvp ;-;)

Alighty, I wanna be as kind a possible when saying this but, you gotta just play thru lol. You do have a very good point where early game is hard. I can 100% agree with you on that. I think that for one you should NOT gain soupoints. You should start with 15 and end with 15, as at low lvls you die very easily AND there is no reason to add soulpoints, a death protection system to players who can kill a wynnic GOD. So yes please salted make early game more enjoyable

From what I can see, everyone agrees that mage needs an early game buff, but unfortunately that buff would then affect end-game mage and make it too OP. It would be great if someone could find some kind of middle ground way to allowing mage to have less expensive heals at the beginning and more damage output (for example), without making mage extremely OP at end-game.

Currently, they're more expensive at the beginning (8 mana at Grade I vs. 7 mana at Grade II vs. 6 mana at Grade III), so reducing the cost to be 6 mana all around could work (assuming it doesn't make it unbalanced; I assume they intentionally made it cost more early on).

Yeah, maybe that could work. The point I’m trying to make is the fact that no one really seems to be disputing the fact that mage needs an early game buff, just that it would be hard to do well.

Im not going to comment on a lot of this but i will say that you can ice snake and then meteor so that it hits, and since it resets mana usage every time you cast one it is a good combo

Heal, not requiring any potions. Teleport, combined with mana regen can be very fast travel. Ice snake, an aoe freeze provides great coverage if being swarmed by melee mobs. And lastly meteor, oh boy what destruction it has. Not having to get potions saves an insane amount of inventory space, it's nice. I only have played the mana regen build and only got up to 91, at one point having I think 20/4s or similar amount of regen. Of course it wasn't entirely damage build so it did take somewhat time even with 20 meteors coming down on one enemy. While I can agree I didn't hit every meteor, it just comes with experience. Eventually you will learn to play meteor to hit nearly every one, sometimes missing due to mobs with insane speed or leaps or such, that is inevitable. While 1-21 isn't the easiest climb out of all the classes, early game meteor is still a fine spell.
