    Hey there!

I’ve been thinking about the cosmetic system, and one thing feels frustrating: once cosmetics leave crates, there’s currently no way to work toward specific ones anymore.

I’d like to suggest adding a “shard” (or “dust”) system alongside the existing combination system.

    The idea:

    • Duplicate or unwanted cosmetics can be broken down into shards

    • The amount of shards depends on the cosmetic’s rarity

    • Shards can be used to obtain a specific cosmetic of your choice
    To keep things balanced:

    • Crafting a cosmetic should be fairly expensive, so crates still have strong value

    • The system would act as a long-term goal rather than a shortcut

    • It wouldn’t replace crates, but complement them by giving players a sense of progression and control
Right now, the combination system only allows upgrading rarity, but not targeting a specific item. A shard system would solve that by letting players slowly work toward the cosmetic they really want.

I think this would reduce frustration while still keeping cosmetics non-pay-to-win and rewarding.

    Thanks for considering!

Although there could be an issue in that this would make people, ya know, buy fewer crates and such, as long as the required shards are reasonably absurd compared to rarity, it should be fine.

Honestly yeah if the exchange rate was 15-20 rares per epic it would probably be okay

Honestly, this might actually increase crate sales. If I knew that I was guaranteed to get a cosmetic if I opened n crates, I'd be far more willing to buy crates than knowing that I'd probably get it in n crates (that said I'm still broke and won't buy crates either way, so maybe take what I think with a grain of salt). I'm not a big gambler, but if I know that I'm guaranteed to get what I want at a certain point, I'm a lot more inclined to buy into that system. While I dislike cosmetic gambling, I think that of all the ways a game fund itself, and frankly, if they can make it a little less gamble-y I think that's great.

That is exactly my point. I would buy a ton more crates if had the guarantee to get the cosmetic I want after a certain number of crates opened.
