World Change Meteor Spell To Meteorite! 49 Supporters!

Yeah. A meteor, which, by one of the definitions in this thread, can be a streak of fire. They only specification that it's a meteor is in the name.

As for doing Earth damage; bomb arrow also does earth damage. Arrow storm does thunder and fire damage. The elements aren't directly linked to the spells, only vaguely and in some cases.

Note that the meteor definition you tried to quote is a "fiery streak in the sky PRODUCED BY A METEOROID"

and a Meteoroid is a mass of STONE OR METAL that has reached the earth from outer space.

I get that you want the last word but this is a debate over the accuracy of the words meteor and meteorite

 

He's defining a meteor to be a product of a meteoroid. That doesn't mean the streak itself is a meteoroid.

That is indeed what a meteoroid is.

There's no stone in the meteor. There's no stone in a bomb arrow either. The point is that damage types don't correlate one-to-one with their visuals.

Neither meteor or meteoroid are really accurate, and never have been. Meteor was originally just a horizontal pillar of flame in front of you.

Point is, meteor is just a name. It's not meant to reflect the spell perfectly, and it doesn't need to.

 

Though why you're against such a minor change to make it accurate confuses me

 

I don't care that much about the suggestion itself. There are reasons I'm against it though;

1. It's hardly accurate whatever way you name it that's not "Fireball"
2. Meteor has been the name for the spell for 3 and a half years and there's not really a reason to change it
3. Changing terms to be logical in a game that's 0% logical
4. If the team wanted or cared for the spells to be accurate, they wouldn't have called it Meteor in the first place

 

But the meteor vaporizes so it never becomes a meteorite

 

1: Its a fire and earth spell. Since when does a ball of pure fire have ANY reason for earth damage

2: Just because the name has been one way for a while does not mean that its correct. Also if you havent seen the 33 supporters so far, i'd say there is >A< reason, and it may come to more widespread knowledge soon

3: There is SOME logic, though i will admit its somewhat scarce.

4: Some people dont know the difference. Some do and care.

 

Also there was a post saying if a meteor was summoned in the upper atmosphere and hit the ground in 1 second it would destroy all the provinces
Let's add that for the sake of realism!

 

1. Since when does an exploding arrow have any reason for earth damage?
2. I'm not saying it's correct, I'm saying it's not really a big deal. Until now, nobody, CT or otherwise has really cared. If the suggestion gets plenty of support, then it may be changed. I'm not super opposed to that personally, but if we're going full-on logic, there's a lot more pressing things that don't make sense.
4. And the people who made it probably don't care. Meteor sounds just as good as Meteorite, if not better.

 

Possibly for the sake of shrapnel? What element would you put THAT as?
Or perhaps due to the shockwave. What would you class THAT as?

Its a moot point, some people think its important some dont

I mean, post spell damage-attack speed nerf Mage could fucking decimate Qira in a couple fireballs, and were it not for the need of the map staying so people could play, it probably WOULD level cities

 

A shockwave would be air. Shrapnel doesn't really have an element. Nor are either of those present. The point remains, spells do not correlate perfectly with their elemental damage. It's part of the balance, not necessarily the logic.

I always believed that the meteor spell is just the mage teleportating a meteor from space. Because I mean are there really that many meteorites that we can already summon from the atmosphere? If that's not it, then maybe the mage forms it from magic itself. In the first case, it would technically be a meteorite I guess, but it could also be called meteor because that's what the mage is summoning. In another case, it would be neither meteor or meteorite, it would just be a huge rock the people of Wynn call meteor because that's what it resembles.
