Not being skilled is not an excuse. I knew next to nothing when I started (though honestly, the result looked like that lol). Just browse wiki and youtube and you will learn.

Actually, I think some definitions of nouns in different noun classes are a bit too dissimilar, and this feels weird to me as the article and the nouns are separate words

The words aren't even given all "broad" definitions, since sometimes the "underlying concept" can't be summed up in english very easily. Like, maybe "Iesu" might be "Mighty figure with mythological implications, whether good or ill?" Not very snappy. You could very easily argue that some 'realizations' of words are different words entirely.

Alas, this isn't too out there, as far as languages go? Like, articles fundamentally changing the interpretation of a noun isn't unheard of (spoken French, say, for something really european: the article is often the only indicator of plurality). That's is a lexical difference as opposed to a grammatical one, but languages do this all the time, and have definitely done so in stranger forms than "the choice of article determines the exact definition of the word." Hell, you've brought up Kiswahili (220m speakers) before and that language has a system nearly cognate to this one. It's weird, but I wouldn't call it unimaginable for a human language. And the Olm weren't even human.

    re: the skillset
I mean. You can absolutely learn conlanging. You can learn the basics fairly quickly. But to make interesting/realistic/believable stuff you need kind of a passion for it, since a good 80% of the process is squinting at wikipedia pages or some australian's 135 page long paper trying to figure out what the difference between a constituency and dependency relation is. No matter what, this is eventually gonna happen. And you're gonna need some kind of motivation. And the first run is going to be terrible.

Another angle to this: meanings change over time. Take for example the word "terrific"- the etymology would imply that the originally meant like "inspiring terror," but nowadays it's used to mean "really good." Perhaps at the beginning the different fire/water/whatever meanings were more true to the root meaning, but over time, as people started using the words in new ways, the meanings diverged. Still traces of the original, but not exactly.

would say that making the article a prefix would make it not weird to me

    we don't do that here

I wouls argue that for all intents and purposes the Olm are practically humans, with some slight differences like age, magic capability, etc.

uh-oh. looks like a number of the images are broken. i've attatched a PDF version of the documentation to the original post. hopefully that's a decent enough stopgap for the deterioration.

on another note: here's Dogun, by Tranpinch and Xozahqira. it's great and you ought to check it out. i'm in the middle of publishing another one myself, and as Trapinch and Stinkeye mentioned above there are multiple other projects cooking at the moment. if you're even slightly interested in conlanging, i recommend joining the wynntheory discord and giving it a look!

    (it's very fun)

Actually in that case it is mandatory to join, otherwise you shall be tortured by being forced to translate in Olmic.
