@Biff highly doubt it. It's more likely that people just reuse the same email/username and password for the forums as another compromised platform. Shady companies then just buy them from dataleaks and try them on as many platforms as possible, hoping that something sticks.

it's typically (scummy) advertising firms doing it on behalf of their (even more scummy) clients. Ya know, the low budget ones that claim to boost sales by so and so much, located in who knows what third world country. It's a completely automated process and they don't care that the platform isn't related to the product at all. Any click counts
