Game Mechanics Use The Diving Helmets To Teach Players About Major Ids

    Wynncraft does a good job at teaching mechanics to players, but one mechanic that is barely explained is Major IDs. I think it's supposed to be introduced with the quest reward for A Sandy Scandal but it doesn't do an amazing job. So I have an idea.

    To intro players to Major IDs, make the breathing effect on the diving helmets be a Major ID instead of a passive effect. The dude who gives it to you could explain the concept of Major IDs. For obvious reasons, Breathing Helmet II would have ''Water breathing 2''.

    + Water Breathing: When wearing this helmet, your oxygen bar goes down much slower.

    + Water Breathing 2: When wearing this helmet, your oxygen bar goes down monumentally slower.

    • Sayrr: Ah! Welcome back! Any luck with the fish?
    • Sayrr: Great, and I'll thank you kindly. Here's your helmet, have fun with that.
    • Sayrr: Oh, and one more thing!
    • Sayrr: You see that on the helmet's description?
    • Sayrr: That's a Major ID! A magical power granted to select items that gives them unique abilities!
    • Sayrr: There really is nothing else like them, and they're fun to play around with! Give them a try if you find them. They are most commonly found on Fabled items!
    • Sayrr: Anyway, good luck with whatever you need that thing for!

    Great idea, but I think it would be slightly better if Water Breathing 2 still described the effect rather than just saying It lasts twice as long as Water Breathing 1

    This helmet should really be a tome. That way it could be used to teach teach the player about both tomes and major ids, not to mention just being generally less annoying. Along with adding depth strider, this could be an effictive way to make underwater combat actually viable, meaning adding grind spots, sections of dungeons (like galleon's graveyard), or even entire bosses that you fight underwater could actually be an interesting and fun mechanic.

    Just change the requirement to having started the Underwater quest

    bump because i added new parts and tweaked a major id description

    Thing is, this isn't really a huge change. This is more of a ''Wynn should make small tweaks to teach players stuff like this'' scenario than a ''add this whole new area and stuff'' so when I was making the thread I didn't see a poll as entirely necessary.

    Definitely a really useful addition that would help teach newer players. +1 Possibly adding something similar into the tutorial quest would be a good way to get most new players introduced.

    Yeah, but you don't get any tomes until NotG, so there's no point unlocking them until then.

    Just make all quest helmets into blessings that give you magic powers. Everyone will ignore the obvious lore inconsistencies ("Here, take this magic blessing, even though I have no magic powers whatsoever!") purely for the chance to fight the Corruptor of Worlds with a valid build.

    I saw an idea that gave you an amulet slot that gained the quest helmet abilities when you unlocked them, instead of you having to wear the helmets.

    Wynncraft acknowledging that there should be substitutes for quest helmets could be the best part of 1.20.2

    The only thing wrong with this is that players won't see new Major IDs for a good 20 levels, which may leave them wondering, though I still support the suggestion.
