I'm going to start this thread by saying I haven't done a ton of the hero beta, so I'm not familiar with any changes with tools or whatever...

What I DO know about the update is that now when you harvest a resource, it will immediately be refined into its resource based on whether you right-click or left-click. Due to this, there's no longer carry weight or need to refine elsewhere, so most refineries were removed if I recall correctly. This blows. Here's what I think should have been done.

Changes (all of these are being suggested. change #1 refers to starting with a base of the previous system and then adding #2 and #3 on top of that):
    1. Revert back to the pre-update system (for refining only, not tool durability and such)
    2. Remove carry weight
    3. Make refineries faster (instantaneous perhaps)

That's literally it. Here's why I feel this is better
    1. Keeping refining at refineries in the game provides a nice sense of immersion and ambiance in the world.
    2. When harvesting resources you might not know what you want immediately. You may prefer to keep it in its base form to sell to someone who DOES know what they want, or you might just not be sure what you want to craft with it yet.
    3. Carry capacity being removed would allow people to refine a ton of materials at a time, so I feel it should be a bit faster. I don't particularly think anyone gets any enjoyment out of clicking once, then waiting for your materials to refine.

Vote your opinion in the poll, thanks.

I like the beta system better than the current system, but I like this one more than either of those.

It is still partially related, though I see your point. However, re-implementing refinements will cause efficiency of gathering to decrease further, as you now have to spend time to refine the resources on top of tool durability, which is already a bit annoying to deal with. Many high level prof players players would probably prefer either the entire current system barring material weight, or with the beta system due to efficiency issues.

For immersion purposes, I believe the old system barring material weight will be better than the beta system, but for efficiency purposes, the current beta system would be better by a slight bit.

The only time you would have to spend refining would be the time it takes to walk to a nearby refinery, since change #3 suggests a change in the refining time. I feel like this significantly outweighs and costs you may experience as a gatherer trying to sell materials with less demand or as a crafter trying to buy materials with less supply.

Your prediction on high level prof players is biased and not evidence based, although if we're including our opinions here, I prefer my system, as a moderately leveled prof player.

There is obviously always a line between immersion and actual gameplay. Carry weight took a lot away from gameplay for minor "realism". This was not immersion though. This was realism. There is a difference, if you don't know it then that's quite unfortunate and you should spend some time learning about game design. With the refineries on the other hand, these didn't take anything away from gameplay. In my opinion, they added to the gameplay via the ambience they added to the game.

Do note that starting around lv 80, and especially lv 90, there is quite an excess of materials to the point where people are selling T1s between 6-10e each, whereas in other levels, the price is doubled. The only reason for them to refine is to gather some side money after they have leveled up all their crafting professions, though many players would throw them away for the sake of efficiency. This may change though since xp gathered per node is being increased. Even then, many people would still just throw them away.

Instantaneous refining would be kind of weird, unless you are referring to more like 0.05 seconds per material (earrape). This I'm not sure of then.

I encourage you to try out gathering at high levels to level up, many prof players including myself hate it. The grind gets real starting at level 80, although it may probably start at 90 now because of the increase in xp obtained per node and possible gathering speed/xp ids.

Bruh I'm level 86 woodcutting. I'm aware it isn't fun. My changes don't change the gathering system at all, the process is still the same. The only difference is you go to a refinery once, when you're complete. Or don't, and just keep the raw materials.

Either way, I'm of the opinion that players should be able to maintain the option to refine their resources LATER once they're sure what they want to use them for.

If they’re going to reintroduce the refinery’s i would only put them near the common places since you won’t have the material weight limit.

Edit: Btw, I would still keep that cool animation of the processed material popping out and getting to your inventory but this time it will be the unprocessed material that will pop up.

I dont particularly think there's any reason to move them from their current locations (just for the sake of extra work), but if they'd have to manually go out building new refineries then I agree.

I think that the refineries and the old system were perfectly fine. IMO we should keep the carry weight and maybe tweak that but that's just me it seems

No refineries = less armorstands = less lags and also it is faster to directly choose with right/left click so i don't see any problem in the current system.
