Right now, if you are a non Hero or Champion player, your house will have a bare green ring around it. This, at least for me, is annoying since it makes any build you make look strange since its just surrounded by nothing. A fix would be Housing 'Rings'. These would be available to everyone but can be toggled on/off for Heroes and Champions. They would be found in a new setting added to the Housing Master NPC.

A Housing Ring would basically be a pre-set for that bare green ring around the centre of the island. Some would include:
-A forest: there are a few oak small trees and rocks scattered in the ring with grass and flowers. Maybe a fox den or something with a little armorstand fox?
-Plains: Similar to the bare green ring at the moment only more detailed with a few rocks and flowers, etc. Maybe a small pond too?
-Field: a crop field surrounding the middle with a fence around the edge, possibly with a scarecrow too.
-Desert: Similar to the plains, but instead sand.
    -Snowy Plains: Plains with snow.
-Snowy forest: Spruce trees instead of oak. A snowy owl could be found somewhere in there too.
-Corrupted: Corruption spikes and netherack make up the island.

All of these would also have some sort of path leading to the island centre too.

I'm not too sure how this would work for Heroes and Champions. Maybe they can select to have the smaller build area and choose a ring or have the whole island but I don't know how this would work if there was already stuff built on there in the first place.

Please comment your own opinion on this too.

Also sorry if this isn't formatted too well; I don't make threads too often.

I think it's a pretty good idea, but I'd much rather see that the entire housing island is just, made available for everyone. This is probably the biggest high rank perk I have the most issue with, as while housing could be considered "optional", it is basically the most requested and suggested piece of content by the community and to have such a fundamental aspect of it be limited to encourage buying a rank, feels pretty sleezy.

I 100% agree with you, though I think it would be kind of unfair to people who bought hero or champion just for that. Maybe those ranked players should be allowed multiple housing islands they can switch between to compensate, though I'm not too sure. I personally don't mind just having the centre my main issue is that I will never be able to make anything look good because it will just look weird with that green ring around it. At the very least I would have wanted a path to the centre.

I find it surprising that the server takes pride in its great builds and yet doesn't let people who don't pay more to make anything that will also look good.

An alternative would just be to expand the islands more so that the current norank is the current champion, and ranked gets more than that by a bit :) Better than the status quo rn

Sorry but I can't see how this would fix the issue. Personally, I don't mind the size of the current no-rank build area - my issue is that the bare green ring surrounding it will always detract from any build you make since its lack of any detail of any kind just makes the build always look at of place. If I'm reading it correctly, you're suggesting make the island bigger and have the no-rank area be the size of the current rank build area, but how does this solve the issue? It will just result in the same issue, only difference is everything is bigger?

Oh i was talking about other peoples comments on accessibility.

For this issue yeah its pretty good, this would be fun. or they can also just spawn in the extra part of the island when rank go brr

That was the original plan, but it caused too much strain on the servers so they had to do a workaround.

It’s debatable whether a system based entirely on presets is going to resolve the problem for all players. Even past theme and style differences, the fixed size of the rings are problematic too, since you either force all plots to conform to the same maximum area or retain the issue of surrounding mismatches for smaller builds. You could add more presets or make them adjustable in other respects, but the resulting cost on dev time would make it unviable enough that I’d stand against it anyway.

Your complication is also entirely aesthetic, which is generally relegated to ranks at some level anyway. This suggestion sounds similar to something like gear skins or crafted signing.

And from a personal standpoint, I just don’t want this feature that much. I understand your annoyance, but I can’t relate to it. I haven’t really looked at a build and thought that it really needed or even benefitted from some kind of preset terrain wrapped around it.

(not a logical point but i tend to just vote no on bad poll formats)

    Thank you for responding.

These 'rings' aren't meant to be highly specific to one type of build, they're meant to be vague but it would help, i think, make builds look more 'at home' with a good surrounding enviroment. I find that atmosphere is key for a build - so take like a house or something that you want to make cosy, having trees surrounding it would help with this but at the moment it would be hard right now do make that atmosphere given the lack of space, you would have to sacrifice some elements of that build in order to allow another to exist.

Again, fair enough but already, Hero+ ranks have the ability to build on that area. It may be an extreme example, but could you imagine that if you didn't have a rank you would have to play wynncraft with a weapon with the missing texture file? It would ruin the experience, if you ask me. Of course it is entirely aesthetic, but that's what housing is anyway?

I can't argue with opinion, but surely you would rather have something around your plot than nothing at all?

I am sorry that my poll isn't formatted well but you probably shouldn't just vote no simply because of that? In future, what would you suggest I do to make my polls better?

Sorry if I sounded passive-aggressive at all, I don't mean to, this is just how I write. Thank you for the feedback!

I think we conflict on this point in a way that can't really be argued further. My view is that the rings will inevitably fail to fit certain plots simply due to the diversity across player-made builds. If we accept your side here, it's much easier to push for the suggestion.

The premise of housing is that it's a floating island in the sky. A ring of complementary terrain isn't a solution that best fits this.

I agree that it may be extreme. Losing a texture file ruins the experience because it strips all aesthetics entirely. With respect to housing, you're already able to fully customize the inner circle of your plot, and we only argue on the surrounding ring.

Without a visual example/demonstration in the suggestion, I believe that I would lean towards having nothing at all. Even being ambivalent isn't good because it doesn't justify the effort put towards implementation.

Multi-option polls are scummy because they obscure or misrepresent the number of true supporters. A simple yes/no is fine, with the option of changing votes for anyone who is convinced otherwise by discussion. Polls that I like: 100 mana, gather speed, scroll pouch. Polls that I dislike: skill point perks, remove soul points, sort options.

That is a solid point and i agree that they wouldn't be fit for everyone, the point would is that I think in all instances builds would benefit from having anything surrounding them. At the very least a path would have been nice to have. I completely agree with you on the island too, I would have implemented it much different if I were in charge. Point is I highly doubt it is going to be changed now, however I do believe my idea would help with this, as having trees surrounding your home would mean you see less blue from the endless sky around you. I personally wouldn't use a desert preset but if you have turned your floor into sand, then you have a weird ugly green ring that doesn't make sense at all surrounding your base.

That was a bad example on my half, maybe a better example would be that every weapon you held was simply the bog-standard basic model for each class. Anyway, continuing with my example above, say you did build a desert-style house and so have turned the middle of the island to sand, you would then be left with a strange green ring and I think that is unfair for those who would build that style of structure. Same goes for snowy areas or actually any biome that isn't plains really.

I did include descriptions of what would be on those rings and it's not like they wouldn't be made by the same people who built the map so the for example, the oak trees would look like wynn-styled oak trees, etc.

I mean right now anyway, no one voted to change anything. Maybe you are right but I think it instead can also show how many people would alter the suggestion which they would then write in the comments.

Fully agree on that, Champoin already gets exclusive location spots for housing so, it would be really fair and good for the creativity if all players would have unlimited space like Champions do rn
