Yes, I'm aware that there's already profession mini-quests where you gather x amount of y material and give them to a wooden post in exchange for profession EXP. This suggestion is different from that, though. Although they are quests that focus on professions, instead of giving profession EXP, they give higher-tiered tools. Right now, all tools above tier 2 must be purchased from a dungeon merchant, usually for some fragments and emeralds. In my opinion, it would be more immersive if you had other means to get these tools. For example, if you were leveling up mining, once you reach a certain level, you will be able to talk to an NPC that is a miner, who offers to give you a better pickaxe if you help them use dynamite safely. If you did a profession that required string or grain, there could be a quest where you must help a farmer fertilize his crops, and receive a better scythe from the farmer as a reward.

I know that some people will say that professions are meant to be grindy since endgame players have nothing else to do, but I think that this suggestion could improve professions, and make them more enjoyable. Right now, professions can be summed up by, grind materials, grind ingredients, and then occasionally grind dungeons for when you've leveled up enough to be able to use a higher-tiered gathering tool.

I agree that this would improve professions

I do think it would be interesting if you have to make certain weapons, armor, etc... this could encourage players to craft and look for materials

Ye sure I guess? I’m a bit confused about the “crafting quest” part? Could you please explain what you have in mind for that, since the only thing you explained was the “gathering quest” part.

What do you mean, "crafting quest" part? The suggestion is quests that, when completed, give you a higher-tiered gathering tool.

"Crafting/profession quests" because I wasn't sure what one to call them. I see what you mean, and how it could be confusing. Originally I did intend to have the suggestion be, "craft a miner a pair of boots to get a higher-tiered gathering tool" but I realised that that wouldn't be as good and wouldn't work, if, say you were leveling up alchemy and wanted to get a higher-tiered scythe but had to craft food to do so, so I removed that part of the suggestion.

I'm firmly of the mindset that professions should be purely optional, by introducing quests this would give people more incentive to grind and imo decrease the overall enjoyment of the server. Also, this will be a bit broken if a low level player has a ridiculously high level profession rating, I've seen level 20s have level 50s profession ratings and the tool quests equivalent may be too difficult unless you have a combat level cap set.

To clarify I am not against new quests, I am against encouraged grinding and professions quests

I think that instead of asking the player to gather x amount of y material, it would be better to directly ask the player to craft an item for him.

The npc would say something like "Hey (your ign), do you need a new (tool level)? I have a spare one right here, but I would like you to craft a (insert item name) for me."

The item would be an overlay message, meaning that you can hover over the item name to see what the item is, the identifications and the type of item. This would encourage players to explore and find the ingredients needed for the identification.

The item would be randomized to be around the player's level or the gathering tool level.

My suggestion wasn't for the player to gather x amount of y material.

Adding more content to professions makes them not optional? The rewards for doing these quests would be better tools so that the player can grind better. As for a low-level player having higher levelled professions, it wouldn't be too broken IMO. The quests don't have to involve fighting mobs at all. Besides, people who are level 20 with gathering level 50 aren't able to get gathering tools their level right now, because they are unable to access the dungeons. This would let them do that. Though I respect your opinion, and you're probably right that adding my suggestion would bring more players to professions. I just disagree that that's a bad thing. People who don't like grinding will quit once it gets very grindy, at about level 60-70.

I despise professions and because i joined in 2016 and went on hiatus before they added professions i could not catch up. also these quests would be important to lore most likely and this means i would be forced to grind for 6 hours just so i can learn about the history of the great farming race

ok this would be cool but i would not be happy (as of now) because i cannot be bothered with professions. I will grind up my profession once I have unlocked the ability to do AHC but until then im gonna be level 20 at everything except combat and crafting stuff because i dont do crafting

also this would actually be a huge step in the right direction for me because i would actually feel inclined to grind up my professions because it would be fun

So you don't support this suggestion because you do not want to do professions yourself? And . . . important to the lore? Did you read the examples? Helping a farmer fertilize his crops wouldn't be mandatory to understanding the lore.

If we're talking quests, these are not really quests. More like mini tasks you can complete to get some exp.
Quests are more useful to the story of the game. They often provide lore and immerse you in the experience even more.

Depends on your definition of "quests". I didn't title this "profession mini-quests" because there are already profession mini-quests. My suggestion would read the same regardless of what I titled it.

I think this is a cool idea, but I can see it being difficult to come up with unique ideas for every tool tier, or even some of them. Maybe one idea could be is for every tool tier level (or maybe every few levels) there's one quest that gives you all of the tools for that tier. That way the ideas would stay fresh and like actual quests rather than just do x, y and z and I'll give you tools.
