Guilds Option To Defend Guild Territories With Pvp

    First of all: I know PvP is broken atm, this suggestion is not about that. There are other suggestions that go into detail on how to fix it, which would make mine much more viable.

    Tl;dr
    Make it possible to defend an attacked guild territory with players instead of mobs, using mobs as a fallback if no players are there


    So, a friend of mine, Octavian27, had a great idea I picked up and made a bit more realistic:
    Defending guild territories with PvP instead of Mobs.
    Currently, guild wars are just glorified PvE that have you slaughtering thousands of (always the same) mobs for hours on end. This is very repetitive and gets boring really quickly. To make wars a more pleasant/challenging/interesting experience, I recommend the option to defend your territories with PvP.

    How will it work?
    The old way of defending territories should remain. This might sound counter-intuitive, but hear me out:
    You can't defend a territory with PvP when all of your guild is offline/busy. Removing the PvE mechanic and just handing the territories over if you can't defend them (which is something i read in another suggestion, no offense) doesn't seem like a good option to me. This means that when there's nobody to personally defend, the mobs will kick in instead.

    Now to the interesting part:
    If one of your territories is under attack, you can head to said territory (which may require an increased waiting period before a war actually starts, or an alternative option). Once the war begins, a number of defenders that is equal to or lower than the number of attackers (to avoid a guild moving around in packs of defenders, making it impossible to get a territory from them) is chosen to defend said territory. The defenders could be chosen by guild rank or a new option: The defense priority. This enables the more experienced/better geared players to have better chances at actually defending, which in turn makes it more likely for your guild to successfully defend.
    There should also be the option to disable defending on an individual level to avoid being pulled out of regular leveling/lootrunning/AFKing.

    If there are no defenders in the territory when the war starts, it will fall to the regular mobs to battle the attackers. If the defenders win, the mobs will stay, and if the attackers win, they'd either get refunded to the defending guild or claimed as loot for the attackers (not quite sure which would be more reasonable from an economic viewpoint).
    There should also be a benefit to defeating the enemy guild in PvP, which I'd argue would be regular loot (depending on what happens to defending mobs) plus a bonus for each killed defender.


    I'm open to suggestions and improvements, and I'm happy to add anything I see fit our idea.

    i like the idea, but if the defensive side has players and 1000 level 100 mobs on their side. plus if they're using freaking dank cataclysm. then the attackers are screw'd

    Isn't this suggestion on the first few pages already? "Make wars PVP based" is a suggestion.
    This is a good suggestion, but you should probably check for threads before posting one. Everyone likes that.

    That's what i meant with this, the mobs only appear if there are no defenders.
    And about broken combat, that is not what this suggestion is about. Of course combat needs to be better before PvP can be an important part of the game

    I've read that suggestion, but it had a few flaws imo. For example, they required players to be online to defend, otherwise the territory would just be lost instantly. Compare the two threads and you'll find quite a lot of differences

    if the mobs appear w/o defenders, and if PVP is balanced. then it will be fine

    I haven't done large amounts of PvP-ing for a looong time, so I don't even know for sure what exactly the issue(s) is/are. I'll stay on the safe side and let an expert handle that topic

    What do you mean by "Because Mage"? If this is not regarding the unbalanced PvP, please elaborate on what you mean. If it is about PvP, i stated numerous times that this thread is not about that and that PvP would ofc need to be fixed before it can be an important part of the game

    It really does sound appealing to me however, so I voted on the +0.5 support.

    I think the problem is that mage needs to be fair at pvp but to stay strong at pve, so maybe they can nerf mage but only for pvp. (But i know that it's easier to say than to do)
