January 5th Friday
we had a equipment check for the south challenge next week
then we started getting ready for the Shabbat with the previous class of the mechina.
they arrived and we talked and ate together, it was great.

 

January 6th Saturday
we woke up and did everything with the previous class of the mechina
they started leaving at the afternoon (I slept)
then we cleaned up and got ready for the south challenge
at night we had a goodbye party for our last aussie

 

January 7th Sunday
We woke up and cleaned the mechina
Then we put our bags on the bus and drove to Arad to put our weekend bags in a locker room.
Then we drove to the middle of the desert.
There we ate sandwiches and then threw all the food away.
We split into four units and got the unit equipment (a map, first aid kit, a spot (a GPS tracker device with the option of sending color coded signals), chlorine tablets and a compass) then we got our waypoints and I built the path we will follow, before departing from the staff they have us each a candy to be used in a hard time or to give someone else.
We started walking, we did the entire path flawlessly (we had to give up on the last waypoint in order to get to the camping site at time).
There they taught us to light a fire, make pitas and builds a shelter (we each got a 2x3 m nylon sheet and each unit got 2 2x4 m sheets).
We built an ok shelter, ate mujaddara, made some pitas and then I had to go to a meeting of the head of the units, we made a watch list and send people to plan the path for tomorrow. (All of the head of the units are strong at all tasks so we were asked not to help). After that we went to sleep.
I had gaurd duty at 1-2 am but it was ok (really cold tho)

 

January 8th Monday
we woke up at 5 and packed everything
at 6:40 we were all standing for debriefing
then we took a plank each and filled up our water and went on our way.
that day we navigated from the morning to sundown
at the end we got to our camp site (on the way we marinated bulgur)
they taught us how to make a coal bed so they took 2 sleeping bags from us
it was still cold af at night
we cooked the bulgur with fried onion and seasoning.

 

January 9th Tuesday
We woke up at five and packed everything.
Two guys from another unit had to go because of medical reasons so they moved one of us to the other unit (the guy who created the path for the day).
Also a guy from our unit had to switch bags because his sucked.
So left camp pretty late and one of the guys was hurt.
So because none of us made the path we took a hellish path on the cliffs and got to our end point after the hour we were given and we missed two waypoints on the way.
When we got to the end point a letter under a stone waited for us.
Now we had to get to a far point before 9am tomorrow and we aren't allowed to pass another point before 5am. We had to pass a giant mountain to get there so we started climbing, on the top we meet an observer and tried to convince her that our hurt member can't keep going, she said he has to keep going.
So we went down the mountain in the dark, kept going a bit more and then set up camp.
We made mujaddara and set up a pretty good shelter (we also saw a yellow scorpion).
I heated up stones to put in the shelter and went to sleep.

 

January 10th Wednesday
We woke up at five packed everything and started walking.
We had no emergency phone so we sent a green light every 30 minutes.
We passed a lot of groups on the way.
We got to the end point at 9:10, the goal was 9:00
At 12:00 we were given new way points and started navigating.
Because our hurt team member is a dick he didn't let us go unless we teamed up with the rest of the groups (he's really a jerk).
So we walked really slow and ended up on one side of the cliffs when we needed to be at another place.
We got to the end point before sunset and then they told us to split our food cause everyone is sleeping alone today. They also took all our watches and phones.
Our team decided to split the oatmeal.
I got a amazing place to stay overnight, it was in a river bed so I didn't have wind, I cooked my oatmeal and then used the fire to make a coal bed for my feet.
My shelter was great (the best so far).
I went to sleep on a full stomach.

 

January 11th Thursday
We woke up late and packed everything.
Then we met down river and got a new task.
We got a couple questions that we had to discuss.
We split into couples within the team and every couple kilometres we switched couples.
At the end we climbed a big ass hill and had a discussion as a mechina.
We also ate breakfast there.
Then they said it isn't over, we gonna climb Mt. Qanna'im. They point at it, it's on the horizon, the biggest mountain in the area. So we start walking.
Mid way someone stops because of a medical reason so we take his bag and keep going.
Then a girl faints so we do the same.
We stop halfway up and go back to carry them up.
Then we go up the mountain and get summit chocolate (chocolate you can only easy when you reach a summit).
Then we go down, have another talk and start walking to the buses.
There we had food so we ate and then got on the buses.
I went to be'er sheva and ran into two friends I haven't seen for a year, it was nice.
I got a burrito to eat and went on the train.
At security the stopped me cause I had a knife in my bag but they let me go.
On the train I met other mechinot that did a similar week so we talked and found out we know some people.
When I got home I ate a pack of ravioli in cream sauce, a potato and cream pie and corn on the cob.
Then I talked with Aya and went to sleep.

 

January 12th Friday
I woke up at five out of habit.
At eight I went to school with a friend to say hi to teachers.
After that we are chips and drank in the park, we talked for a couple hours then I walked home.
Then we drive to a steak restaurant, I ate a veil schnitzel and a medium rare steak.
At Hime I just rested for a while.
We had my grandparents over for dinner, it was great.
Then I texted Aya goodnight and went to sleep

 

January 13th Saturday
I woke up and ate a big breakfast (fried onions and mushrooms with sunny side up eggs).
Then we went to my grandparents to celebrate my grandfather's cousin birthday.
There was a lot of food, I ate a lot of chili con carne. There were also amazing cakes. We also played a lot with my second cousin (she's like a year old).
Then we went back home, I watched the guardians.
At night I took a train to Aya, they picked me up and I had to wait a bit until she got back from a rehearsal.
Then we had fun, ate and went to sleep.

 

January 14th Sunday
We woke up early
Aya had to go to school and I waited a bit at their house and then took a bus to the mechina
It rained all day
We are hosting open days tomorrow so I had to fix the door to the classroom so they could sleep there.
It was really hard.
Then I texted Aya goodnight and went to sleep

 

January 15th Monday
We went to mea shearim (a ultra Orthodox neighborhood in Jerusalem)
There we toured the place and talked with people. (Weird shit happens there)
Then we took a bus back to the mechina and helped with the open days.
This time the participants had a variety of ideals and where willing to talk about them.
At night I texted Aya goodnight (she found the gift I left for her) and went to sleep.

January 16th Tuesday
The open days are still going on
I decided to string some chilli's together and hang them for drying.
I also made a jar of pickles
they are delicious
After that we had a class about women of the wall and got ready for joining them tomorrow.

 

January 17th Wednesday
We woke up really early to get to the woman of the wall.
I argued with some ultra Orthodox guys there.
After that we went to the Jewish agency. We had an explanation there.
Then we were given some questions and an hour to find someone that will answer them.
So I went to donate blood and argue stuff with other people.
After that we went to the knneset and meet three PM.
After that we went back to the mechina and fell asleep.

 

January 18th Thursday
We went to a seminar in Jerusalem
We meet the head of the confermist movement, the head of the reform movement and a guy from a secular movement. It was great.
Then the teberia branch came to sleep at our mechina, they are so unorganized.
We helped them set up and went to sleep.

 

January 19th Friday
We woke up early and I showered.
Then we went for a couple lectures in Jerusalem. (The teberia branch forgot their food and cutlery at our mechina)
I bought a beer float on the way.
Then we went to telzstone (an Orthodox city) we are gonna spend the Shabbat there.
We set up there, changed clothes and went to eat dinner at the families.
The food was great and the discussion was interesting.
We went back to the place we we sleeping and started another discussion while eating.
After that we cleaned up and went to sleep..

 

January 20th Saturday
I woke up and ate some snacks.
Close to noon we went to eat breakfast at another family, the food was ok but the discussion was great.
We missed a lecture but had a great time.
After that we had dinner at another family and havdala.
We also had a lecture about religion and machines and a performance from a guitar player.
Then we cleaned the place, packed our stuff and drove back to the mechina there we unloaded everything and I stayed up for a bit to get stuff organized.
Then Aya came to visit so we went to sleep in the guest room.

 

January 21st Sunday
We woke up and split the stuff for breakfast between us.
Then we got on a bus to Tel Aviv (Aya joined us)
From there we took a train to Haifa and then to the Baha'i gardens.
We then walked along the gardens and went in once in a while for a view point or a guide.
After that we had a quick guide about the German colony and then we were given an hour for a lunch break, me and Aya went to a bakery and ate a pizza and some pitas with cheese. We also looked at a glass shop.
After that we took a bus to the Ahmed mosque.
We met with the CEO of the Ahmed movement and had a lovely talk.
From there we took a bus down the mountain and another one to my house.
There we made dinner (ptitim, chicken and beef stew my grandma made, salads, cauliflower in the oven, börk and some other stuff)
From there we took a bus to the central station (me and Aya ran to the train station so she could catch her train (she made it while taking my sweater and a box of pastries hostage).
Then we all took a train to Tel Aviv and a bus to the mechina.
We were all so tired and went to sleep almost immediately.

 

January 22nd Monday
