Chapter 8
Set in Motion

Ragni | Sewers | Sunset | 6:04 PM

Sull and Grem charge at each other.

Both of them exchange punches to their face and gut.

Grem jumps back and places his hand on the wall.

Spikes come out of the ground toward Sull.

Sull jumps on the sides of the spikes and charges in.

Grem places his hand on the wall again.

A strong wind blows through the sewer tunnels.​

Grem♂: Wha-
Sull♂: (Surrounds own arm in flames) You were ignorant enough to think I was the only one stationed here.

The wall on Sull’s left extends out and pushes him into the sewer water.​

Grem♂: Can't create fire when you're soaked.

Merin takes out a dagger and sprints toward Grem.​

Grem♂: Oh, yeah. You’re still here.

He snaps Merin's arm and makes him drop the dagger.​

Grem♂: (Throws into water) Now, where did the other one go? (Looks around) Hey, tell your buddy to stop targeting us when you find him, alright? Scram.

Merin cowardly runs away.

Grem walks up and faces the wall the hidden room’s behind.​

Grem♂: (Knocks) Anyone home in there? I’m friendly if you're not planning on killing me and my buddies.

The wall opens up.​

Cedric♂: What are you doing?
Waront♂: He said he won't kill us if we don't attack.
Grem♂: (Walks in) Huh, didn't think there'd be two people hiding in here. Thanks for preserving it for me. (Touches wall)

The room lights up with mysterious symbols and an orb with what looks like an eye in it.​

Grem♂: The last one. (Takes the orb out of the wall)
Cedric♂: What is that?
Grem♂: I wish I could tell you and the king the full story, but I gotta go. It's only a matter of time until they find out.

Ragni | Eastern Gate | Sunset | 6:12 PM

Russ♂: What's the numbers?
Soldier♂: We have 10 injured and 6 dead. No civilians were harmed. We have also counted the opposition; 15 injured and 18 dead.
Russ♂: Well, that was a short battle. Almost as if- (Sprints down the street) All of that was a decoy! I’m supposed to be a detective, damnit!

Ragni | Sewers | Northern Exit | Sunset | 6:15 PM​

Grem♂: Time to go.
Cedric♂: Wait! You’re come with me and answer my questions!
Grem♂: If I refuse?
Cedric♂: I’ll fight you if I have to.
Grem♂: Boy, do you really think you'll stand a chance after what you saw? I will tell you this, though. The name’s Grem. There's no point in looking up my records; they were probably erased. (Jumps down from sewers)

There is a caravan waiting for him.​

Mira♀: You’re late.

Mira | Age 30 | Villager | Female​

Grem♂: (Hops on) I gotchya. Be later next time.

The caravan drives away to the north-east.​

Mira♀: So, do you have it?
Grem♂: Nope.
Mira♀: What do you mean no!
Grem♂: You see. (Takes out orb from bag and crushes it in hand) It's fake. Someone must've anticipated our movements and took the real one. It was most likely the traitors’ doing.
Waront♂: Oh, right. (Hands keys) Hopefully, we can free the prisoner.
Russ♂: (Runs in) Are you alright?
Cedric♂: Yeah, I'm fine. I need a new spear, though. The criminals got away.

Russ punches the back of Cedric’s head.​

Cedric♂: (Groans) Ow! What was that for!
Russ♂: I told you that they were likely to target the sewers. There were multiple bodies on my way here. You could have been one of them.
Cedric♂: I told you, I can take care of myself.
Russ♂: (Scratches head) Fine. Just tell me when you’re gonna wander off somewhere.
Cedric♂: Actually, “I’m just saying my own experience.”
Russ♂: (Chases) You brat! Come back here!
Waront♂: (Puzzled) Huh?

Ragni | King’s Room | Nightfall | 6:32 PM

The king is asleep on his desk.

Jaquelyn exits the room.

Ragni | Underground | Nightfall | 6:37 PM​

Jaquelyn♀: How was it?
Sull♂: We failed. They got away.
Jaquelyn♀: How?
Merin♂: Y-You see, there were u-unforeseen events and-
Jaquelyn♀: That's unacceptable. He wouldn't tolerate such failure and would execute you. Luckily, he’s traveling to Almuj.
Sull♂: Please, forgive us.
Merin♂: And, heal us too, please.
Jaquelyn♀: This is the last time you’ll be healed by me. (Raises hands)

A bright light consumes the room.

Ragni | King’s Room | Clear skies | 7:12 PM​

Russ♂: That’s what happened, sir.
Ragni’s King♂: From the both of your testimonies, the cultists were after an orb with an eye. And, another group is after them.
Cedric♂: That’s right.
Ragni’s King♂: Russ, you're getting a promotion.
Russ♂: (Puzzled) Huh?
Ragni’s King♂: Judging from the soldier’s reports out there, you showed valiant effort in leading them. I’m promoting you to be in charge of Ragni’s armed forces.
Russ♂: B-But, sir. I can barely look over a child. How will I be able to look over an army?
Ragni’s King♂: (Chuckles) Modesty, I like it. Trust me, you'll be fine. You’ll also be living in the castle now, since you're a high ranking soldier.
Russ♂: That reminds me. Where’s your assistant?
Ragni’s King♂: She had business to attend to, but I don't know what it is.
Russ♂: Thank you, sir. I gladly accept the promotion.

Two minutes later.​

Trina enters after Cedric and Russ exit.​

Trina♀: You wanted to see me, sir?

The hallways.​

Cedric♂: (Walking) Aren't you too young for the assistant?
Russ♂: (Walking) Shut up, it's not that. She seems suspicious.

King’s Room.​

Trina♀: Uh-
Ragni’s King♂: And so, starting tomorrow, you will be a bodyguard.
Trina♀: (Puzzled) Huh? I don't quite get it.
Ragni’s King♂: You just need to watch out for the rookie, that’s all.
