I want breath of the wild, that's about it. Idk if one game is worth a console though. However, if a new Metroid Prime game is released...

Well, I WAS going to pre-order it when it went back on the market, but now that I know you have to pay for online multiplayer, I think I've changed my mind... Breath of the Wild is going to be on Wii U anyway, right?

i'll probably end up buying it after some time that it's been out, but the paid-online services completely turns me off of it
nintendo is the biggest console company on the market atm and they choose to make it so you have to pay for multiplayer? really??
it wouldnt be much of a deal to me if i wasnt really fucking excited for the new splatoon game: splatoon is only really fun in online multiplayer, and i dont want to pay to have to play online. if i wanted to do that i would buy an xbox or a ps4

if any more games are revealed that i know ill be excited for are revealed ill consider buying it sooner, but for now its a no from me

Nintendo has done DLC before and they always make sure the base game stays a complete experience. Mario Kart 8 and Smash Bros, for example. Those have DLC and no one even thinks twice about paying for that stuff. Not to mention Fire Emblem doing DLC pack maps in Awakening and now Fates. The base game is never considered to be incomplete for these games, yet the DLC is still considered to be an amazing EXPANSION to the game.

Having DLC does not automatically make a game suck. Though, admittedly, hard mode and a map feature (unclear if it means "map" as in world, or "map" as in the actual map tool you use to navigate) being DLC are a bit weird but part of that is due to vagueness. Which I won't deny is a huge problem that Nintendo needs to start addressing. For all we know the Hard Mode could be more akin to Master Quest/Second Quest with a changed world and dungeons along with the harder enemies. Clearly they need a few months to add it though so I don't think it's just stuff they tore out of the base game for the specific purpose of being greedy.

But lemme ask you this. The Witcher does DLC (announced prior to the launch of the game just like Zelda) and it's largely considered to be great. Why does an open-world game like that get a pass, but an open-world game from Nintendo doesn't?

I showed you an example at the end where it's acceptable for another game company does DLC for their open world game but pointed out how suddenly it's not okay when Nintendo does the same thing. I wouldn't exactly call my post "It's okay when Nintendo does it!" when I just explained my reasoning for why I think Breath of the Wild's DLC probably won't be as bad as people think while still pointing out some flaws of the situation. Of course, you're still entitled to not like the idea of the DLC at all but I really don't see how my post was the blind fanboying that your response implied.

    all bait aside,

    true

also true. nintendo needs to cut it out with being vague about everything. when you won't reveal details about something for a long while, you have no right to complain when everyone starts to get suspicious about it. (not that they complained, but still)

several previous zelda games have had hard mode/master quest/second quest built in. why is it now acceptable that they make you pay for it? is it because of the rampant "DLC culture" that video game companies are now in, because "everyone else does it" isn't really valid. i really don't get why they suddenly have to charge for something that should just be a part of the game to begin with (other than money/greed).

the difference here is that at least the witcher 3 had new game+ as free dlc, rather than paid dlc.

One thing people have to realize is that making a video game is a much bigger project than it was back in the 20th century. This game alone needed 300 developers and had to be delayed twice and is just now only coming out almost a year and a half after its planned release date. It cost a lot of money and a lot of time. So I imagine they probably wanted to make some DLC just to make a little more profit out of the game. Less greed and more "in case sales aren't as good as expected we're gonna need a Plan B".

Not to mention, in game development, you can NEVER get everything you want into a game. It never happens. You always have to cut ideas, or else you'll never actually finish making the game because you'll obsess over making it perfect. A traditional "hero mode" wouldn't work for Breath of the Wild. Enemies dealing double damage is just too much with enemies dealing like 7-10 hearts of damage. And they can't disable heart drops if there are no heart pickups. And they can't disable food, the only way of recovering health. So I imagine they needed to go with something a bit crazier than Hero Mode for their Hard Mode but I guess it just couldn't make deadline, along with all of the other stuff included in the DLC. Could've been a free update I guess but they need to put more development work into this, even AFTER the game has gone gold (Note that it's not coming out until the summer) so I can get why they'd want a little extra money just to make a profit of of all of this.

I think DLC is more than just greed. The game development world is much different than it was before DLC. They're such huge projects that it's just become harder and harder to even get a complete game at all, let alone with all of the features you wanted. Granted, that doesn't excuse all DLC as there's plenty of companies who only use DLC as a scam for money but I don't think we should hold that against every company who tries to use DLC at all. I'm willing to give Nintendo the benefit of the doubt because they have yet to make a scam out of their DLC, even if their vagueness is doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING GOOD FOR THEM SERIOUSLY.
Fair enough, but that's only one feature of the DLC.

    fair enough, i suppose.

    yeah that's reasonable too.
however, when people fall for not-so-great DLC, it kinda sets a precedent that other vidya companies might also take advantage of if necessary. sure, it might start off as reasonable, but then they might start pushing it in the future.
hell, they practically already are compared to the mario kart 8 DLC.

But srsly DLC can be good and Nintendo is one of the least greedy companies out there if you ask me. I haven't read every games News Report ever but I haven't seen any cases of Nintendo being greedy or harming the expirience of the consumer for some extra monitasation Options so far and I trust them that they won't in the future. Sure they did some Things that aren't so good like, of Course, that paid onlime multiplayer Thing I discovered through this thread and shutting down some fan games but hey, Servers cost Money to maintain and while it is kinda shitty if they hadn't defended their Copyright against thoose fan games they might've lost the right too when someone actually disturbs their Copyrights in a serious way (I believe).

And also they make really good games and if you ask me that's the most important part.

I will 100% be getting the Switch, but I will also be 100% waiting until the Holidays for when I can actually afford it and when it has a line up of games that actually justify buying a $300 console.

I agree. I mean, many of the major games you find on, say, X-Box (like CoD or GTA. Not insulting those games, just an example) require payed multiplayer to fully enjoy, plus DLC gamemodes and stuff. However, Pokemon has no DLC (as far as I know), Smash's DLC is just some fighters and nice cosmetic items, both of which you can do without, Fire Emblem is just some levels from which you can get cool stuff that you don't particularly need (and they give you gifts anyway, including a DLC the size of most of the others), and so on.

Somehow I think a few of the problems presented in that video were brought on by an external force, rather than the switch itself. Nonetheless, it could also be partially the fault of the switch if it's weak or prone to breakage (I mean, phones these days are pretty fragile, so what can you do.).

    Though the other problems...wow.
