Why can this ability not be unlocked?

You can't really see but it's not lit up like the one in the corner is. Left-clicking does not unlock it.

this one (Better Leap) can be unlocked and I don't see how the two are different. They both:

• are in the middle below two abilities, one of which is unlocked
• cost 1 ability point
• have a required ability whose requirement is met

notable: I have the Guardian Angel replacement ability, which is not necessary to reach this version of Better arrow Shield. Maybe it has a hidden "can not be taken if PLAYER has Guardian Angel" ability, but more shields

still works with guardian angel (adds more bows btw, makes guardian angel twice as good). Because this works I don't see why the one above would not.

 

You need to unlock the abilities before it.

only one I can reasonably see is the one I circled in orange here, but if that one were needed, why is the one in green not needed for better leap?

Possibly the one you circled, then the one above it. There needs to be a line connecting to it which usually shows its unlocked. You can also try this one

 

What's your source?

(In my experience of figuring out the math behind wynn's mechanics things never really work the way you expect them to at first and I don't think people who don't explicitly pay attention to it will notice the +40% DPS increase for it.)

Ah I think I may know. If you already have the Guardian Angels perk, you cannot get "Better Arrow Shield". Hope that helped!
