In all seriousness, Minecraft kinda seems a bit timeless. Like even if it was still around until the next generation, it wouldn't be inclusive to the generation is started with.

There are so many people saying that minecraft keeps getting worse and worse. And yeah, there will always be nostalgia-blinded assholes in every community, but the Minecraft community is still kinda new compared to other games. So they haven't experienced much change.

I am gonna compare this to the Pokemon Community. It has lasted 20 years. Back in around Generation 3 (Hoenn, 2005, Ruby and Sapphire, Gameboy Advanced), there was so much hate for these new games for many new reasons. But the biggest out of all of them was because it was 'different'. The same happened in Generation 4 (Sinnoh, 2007, Diamond and Pearl, Nintendo DS), and as well as Generation 5 (Unova, 2011, Black and White, Nintendo DS). However over time, the audience has been able to mature a bit. Now, Generation 3 has been considered one of the best games by the community. And Gen 5 has been regarded as having one of the best story and theme. Gen 4? It's getting there.

So in conclusion, It may feel like that Minecraft might die soon, but just give it time, the majority of the audience will mature.

I have never played multiplayer. And anyway, even if no-one's playing singleplayer then it isn't dead; just changing forms. Does a caterpillar die when it becomes a butterfly? No; and neither will this.

I agree, because Mojang was sold to Microsoft, Some of the dedication what went into the game kind of sank. Take 1.9 For instance. Microsoft might tear it down a little, but It will be Remembered as a legend. Some games are so beloved they gain almost a god-like status. Minecraft might die down, but it will not stop going untill a a good time. Take a look at servers like Wynncraft or Mineverse

I'm from the present, and I do minimal PvP yet I still dislike 1.9 for many reasons, and I don't see myself changing how I think of it in the future. You must be from an alternate reality for that future to exist, since I'm proof that it doesn't happen like that.

For OP: Due to the split in the community opinions over 1.9, and the server blacklists due to the EULA, I think popularity for Minecraft is going to sink over the next few years.

Im just guessing but I believe that it won't die for a VERY long while seeing that minecraft has become one of the most popular games of all time seeing the amount of sales that it gets.

 

You know, the thing is, that minecraft died before it even got released. The last version I consider to still bring out the original concepts of the game is beta 1.7.3

I think it'll become one of those games that dies but is remembered fondly. People will look back on it and call it a true piece of art. It will likely due soon, but I doubt it will be forgotten within the next 40 years.

imo minecraft is going just to the worse way every update.. 1.9 was already cancer update but 1.10 is even more. Not saying minecraft is bad game, i still play alot of singleplayer in fact

 

I didn't see anything wrong with 1.9. I like the shield mechanic and the main hand / offhand makes it easier to slaughter things.
