ive done some more digging
and i think i have sort of an idea on whats with the decay

so, like. a lot of quests seem to be talking about how it's greed that caused the decay, yeah?
but in the end its unclear about whether or not that's ACTUALLY the cause
in aldorei's secret part two, theres this line of dialogue

"although we may be wrong" is interesting, as it implies that the elves could (and honestly, probably are) wrong about the source of the decay

theres some other interesting stuff here

"a thousand years ago"
oh hey, that's when the nether portal opened

from what i can tell, the reason the decay and corruption are so god damn similar is because, in the end, they kind of are the same thing? or, at least, come from the same source
the opening of the nether portal evidently allowed the war between the light and dark realms to spill out into the main world

we've been told that corruption is what happens when light and dark mix
but i think that this is only half true
yeah, it's what happens when light and dark mix. but only when the pure light and pure dark energy collide
in other cases, you find darkness encroaching upon light, and vice versa

i think the decay is really just darkness slowly encroaching on the territory of the light. it's not pure dark, and it's not pure light - so it manifests as a decay
we can also see light encroaching on darkness in the silent expanse

anyways those are just my thoughts on the matter

that can be explained away by the whole darkness infiltrating gavel thing
i'd say it would make sense that the darkness began to influence the creatures of gavel in bad ways
villagers grew more greedy

Well I just thought Taproot would be different since like the Helios, it's connected to the Realm of Light by being made of Light. Though you could be right given how vague the Elves are and they supposed to be connected to the Realm of Light too.

I mean the Dwarves literally committed war crimes and genocide for glory, money, and land, so I'd say they're even worse than the Villagers. I never got why everyone picks on Villagers for being so greedy when every other race besides Elves engages in trade, and at least they didn't commit genocide like the Dwarves...

also the whole dwarf propaganda machine was a thing (though maybe the elves would know about that? idk)
theres a reason they locked themselves up lol
because literally everyone outside sucks
and everyone inside sucks too

corkians kind of suck (they made the factory, they took over the avos' land, etc), though thats sort of unrelated to the whole dern stuff

fine. the desert civilization sealed themselves away, presumably to avoid corruption?
the twains were a mixed bag of quality, some were good, some were theorick
the miners is the prime example of something humans did wrong, though you could argue that that was accidental

idk, i cant really think of anything humans inherently did wrong
other than opening the portal

also, the elves dont really look down on the humans
they allow the test to enter aldorei (which you pass)

side-note: the whole test is kind of dumb. like, really? no villagers have ever looked for missing people? that's. dumb.

also, to go back on the whole taproot discussion

this is definitely true now, as the nether portal's been opened
but i'd argue that this wasn't true back before the nether portal got opened
why?
because before that, darkness stayed in silent expanse, light stayed in gavel, and everything was fine
not much of a battleground

but then the portal opens, and the war spills out into our world
which makes this statement true, because theyre definitely fighting here now
just
their war was probably contained in the nether prior to this

Why did the Darkness stay in the Silent Expanse again? It might've been explained in a discovery...

 

the area definitely seemed to be sealed off before the miners dug into it

and then they sealed it again afterwards lol

 

Oh, okay. I thought the land was originally connected or something because the Olm built Time Valley. So how could have they reached Time Valley if their land (the Silent Expanse) was sealed off from the rest of the Wynn province?

theyve been present since before the portal, meaning the olm would have built the ruins before the nether portal was opened

honestly tl;dr im lost again and i dont know whats up with the lore lmao

 

Oh well, let's just put it to rest for now. I still have to check out all of the new discoveries, so maybe they might shed some more light.

It would answer many questions, yeah.
But currently, it’s confirmed by Salted and the 1.19 page that it’s a realm.
