What If You Could Choose Any Superpower?

My superpower would be not time control, but rather something close.
The power I'd like to have is to be able to go through parallel universes. Then, all that is possible would have already become mine.

Spoiler: Long Explanation

If we were to assume the existence of parallel universes, it'd mean that for every action that happens in one universe, another one would take its place in the other one.
Parallel universes could be practically out of time. There might be a universe in which everything moved at a slower pace from the very dawn of its creation, which means that if you were to travel from your universe to this one, you would quite literally travel in time, without doing so. You would just move yourself from one reality to another, so that there is no place for a paradox to happen in the first place.
The parallel universes create infinite possibilities. If you were to control where you were going, you could easily create an illusion of you being the God in one universe, or a normal man in the other one. Ylu could easily hop into a universe in which you are given eternal life, power overwhelming, the greatest mind in the universes, were you able to control where you appear.

 

Interesting choice!
It's always good to say effortless control over your power as even "small" things like flying... well, I can't even imagine how superheroes would learn how to fly (just jump and hope?)

I've actually never heard of the Fletcher's paradox, and it was an interesting read.
I guess the Fletcher's paradox all depends on how you interpret time. If you think of time as something that is always flowing, 1: You wouldn't be able to stop time and 2: The Fletcher's paradox would become meaningless as splitting time into points turns it into something that's not time (based on that definition)
I personally think of time as a flow (although it could move forward or backwards...) so I guess that determines my interpretation of the Fletcher's Paradox.

While we're on the topic of paradoxes, my personal favorite is Theseus' paradox (if you replace all the parts, is it the same thing?) This can apply to both machines and humans. It's interesting to think how humans replace almost all of their old cells (excluding bone and nerve) with new ones every few months. Are we still the same person?

 

Theseus's ship is cool. And it brings up an interesting topic in a world where we can replace many body parts with prosthetic ones; When do we stop becoming us?

 

Especially in the future where reading mental inputs (for other robotic parts) which might lead to "upgrades", it's an interesting question both ethical and literal.
What's your personal opinion on Theseus's ship?

Depending on the magnitude, it could literally be a nuke, but less radiation fallout, more explosion (nuclear fusion)

I've changed my mind. My power would be the ability to understand all of the brain-killing time travel and universe stuff being talked about in this thread.

 

Mind control. I could know what others think about me by telling them they tell me.

Kim Jong Un wants to start a nuclear war? Tell him not to. Kanye West is making another album? Cancel that shit. Trump wants to build a wall? Make it twice as thick.

Of course it's nothing cool such as time travel, morphing into whatever you want, or changing the odds of something, but I can live with it.

Althought, yea changing odds and morphing are two awesome powers aswell.

 

The ability to freeze time and everyone around me, I could have infinite time to study for a test or be able to sleep as long as I want.
in terms of using it as a superpower literally nobody could stop someone who can freeze time and them. It would be like going as fast as quicksilver, but even faster.

You know how the brain is responsible for all the functions of your body? Every nerve and cell and thought?
If somebody was mean mean, I could make them have cancer.

Oh, so you were bullying someone else until they got into a heavy state of depression and probably even suicide? I'll give you ten times the amount of suicidal thoughts, and everytime you try to attempt your self murder, you would feel twice the usual pain. Or even better! I'll multiply your pain to the point you drop the weapon, meaning you would never die, unless of a torturing lethal injection.

I would recode your brain in such a way, that the more you loved someone during a hug the more it would hurt.

Oh, you were the one who had been bullied? I'll put those depressions aside. Make you feel happy and motivated. Make you self confident and love everyone.
