Yeah, the Gavel story does have flaws (By which I mean the existence of the decay) but as I said, it’s a great foundation for the main story later on. It creates a good amount of unknown things to allow for them to change it later on and still gives players a good idea of what’s going to happen.

But about the corruption, While it’s a bit bad now the concept of it is amazing - as the fight between Light and Darkness gets more intense, the rest of the world gets caught in the middle of it, in the corruption.

Also I never said its perfect, it has tons of flaws which can be improved upon. But the beginnings of a good story are there.

But again, I’m bad at story writing and I have terribly low standards (as long as its not too boring and bland I’m fine with it). Also while its overused, Light Vs Darkness isn’t bad. It would be nice to see something new for a change, but you can’t punish people for not being that change.

Qira isn't evil, in my eyes. Just unethical. I can expand further if need be, but if you take a look at dialogue, what she does, everything, what happens in Iron Heart is evil-er than her, in my opinion, given what we have been given.

That's another thing: The corruption or darkness or whatever you call it is supposed to be the main conflict of the story. But instead, 90% of the time we do things that are completely unrelated, and the "main" bosses of the corruption end 3/4 of the way into the game, and then it's never brought up again. Which makes the experience jarring if you cared about it, especially since the boss of the Light Dungeon is supposed to be the climax, if not the final boss of the game, but they don't even bother to do that.... So you're just hanging around for the rest of the game, waiting for the final boss to show up, and it never comes.

I don't know what you mean by saying that it creates uncertainty, yet simultaneously is also predictable. During my playthroughs of Gavel, I barely knew what was going on because most of the quests were so disconnected from each other and I seemed to be just running around doing random errands for complete strangers. And the stuff that is supposed to connect with each other (like the Realm of Light quests), they are just boring, fetchy, and you barely learn or do anything impactful. The only thing that was predictable was that anything I did in my quests would not actually change the status quo in some significant way or be brought up again.

Ok? It still just functions as I said before. And we never actually defeat the corruption for good either, or even learn what was in the Nether that caused the corruption in the first place. Again, Light and Darkness combining doesn't mean anything... Like what? I create corruption by turning off my lights in my room and drawing back the curtains?

I can't give something credit that simply isn't there. A lot of things have potential, but it doesn't mean they are good or even will be.

Look, it's fine if you like it, I'm not saying that you can't enjoy it. But as Video Game Dunkey said, while the best takes on a game/story are subjective, you still should be able to say why you like it. Even if someone disagrees with you, at least they can understand where you are coming from.

The reason why I'm criticizing the game for not being that change is that it makes the game completely unmemorable and bland. If it wasn't for the fact this game is technically an RPG and it can't rely on consistent core gameplay, then I would say just throw the story back in the wayside. Can you name more than 2 characters that you could remember that weren't Bob or Amadel in your first playthrough? I can't even after 4 playthroughs. I don't even remember the race of those beings in the Realm of Light, or even their Mom or whatever. Most casual players don't even care at all.

There are only a handful of quests that are even directly about the Light vs. Darkness questline. One is just a fetch quest with a little cinematic at the end that shows us some random worm. The next is just a longer fetch quest that involves running random errands for complete strangers that never come up again (Like we always do...) and getting access to a portal. And the final quest is just another fetch quest with a cheesable, easy boss and the promise of a dungeon. That's it. Nothing we do in these three quests ever comes up again, and no one seems to care either.

And stuff like this is just not fixable unless if you bulldoze half the game and recreate the entire quest format so not most quests are just random sidequests. Which is never going to happen given the restraints of the CT.

Yeah, I do now notice my lack of proper evidence or good arguments. Sorry about that. Also, I explained everything terribly. I don't really like the Light Vs Darkness, I have no idea why I mentioned it in the first place. Its my second least favourite part of gavel, first being the existence of decay. I'm sorry for misleading you and supporting an argument that I don't even support myself. I meant that the lore points in Gavel are interesting, its just a shame that they aren't connected in any way, but I incorrectly explained it and went with it for some reason.

Oh it’s fine. Sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable or anything, it’s just more so I was trying to figure out if I missed something or I didn’t see something in a different way.

I do agree with you there that it does have interesting aspects to it. Especially the races and the Caritats and Mr. Dullivan. Though it just doesn’t seem to focus on them for too long or at least intertwine them with the rest of the content. Some important stuff like the governments of Gavel they just completely gloss over...

I like to think of it as your Grandpa trying to tell you a story. Most of it he just drones on and on about nothing, but once in awhile he brings up something interesting like being in Vietnam. But the moment he does, it’s without context or reason, and doesn’t stop to let you ask some questions. And then he just quickly moves onto the next thing, and keeps rambling on without ever mentioning it again until he stops abruptly and falls asleep. And you’re just left sitting there wondering what was the whole point of it.
