It should have particles a bit like mage to be able to judge range, and give the user feedback.

For a user to enjoy using a system the system needs to be responsive, a lot of the time when using warrior and clicking nothing seems to happen.

    This is poor systems design.

I suggest particles to fix this, kind of like mage's.

    • It would visually tell players their range
    • You could use it to check if you are lagging
    • It proves that your hits clicks are being registered
    • It could look really awesome
    • Instant feedback is a very important part of design
    • You can judge required accuracy
    I see no downsides.

I'd like to note that actually, a lot of the time mobs being hit don't seem to provide instant feedback. It's difficult to tell what your weapon speed is without some indicator that isn't just mobs, and it can be frustrating to think that hits aren't registering.

I think captainganon has made by far the most important contributions to this thread, so I'm including their brilliant points here, and what I think might be viable answers.

To be honest, I feel like the 'logical' argument is the more pertinent one xD

No they should all have a default effect.
Assassin is trail of particles in a mini AOE swing.
    Warrior is a particle spear.
    Mage and archer are given.

Nah, this should also apply to assassin of course. I just have personal experience with warrior, not yet assassin.

Who voted for no and why?

I not so interested in people posting "I agree" posts, that's boring and nonconstructive.

I am much more interested in the reasons why people might disagree with this idea, so please share.

I'm going to have to say no, for one reason. Will say though, personally, I do think this would be nice.

The reason behind my no is that attack effects are one of the perks that donors get, and one of the few that VIPs still have. To take away yet another thing from the VIP rank just wouldn't do. Especially if this affects assassins as well.

A smaller, though less pertinent, reason would be that it doesn't really make sense logically. I know this is a fantasy MMORPG, but it has it's own logic to it. Mage's melee has an effect because it's shooting a beam of magic or whatever, and Archer's "melee" has an effect because the weapon's a bow and arrow, not just a bow. A warrior swinging a spear and an assassin slicing with a dagger don't really have any visuals past that.

    Real quick here;
    1. True
    2. There are other, just as effective methods to such
    3. Not really necessary, as mobs already show that
    4. That's what the perk is for
    5. Also true, though any mobs your hitting will show such
    6. I mean, I guess? The range isn't much further than typical Minecraft range, and for anything further than a few blocks, you'll probably be using spells instead.
There aren't many, that's true, but you just need to look a little closer.

Perhaps just a single dot at the spot right in front of you, to judge range? Takes away little from VIP's, and makes the classes a little better for melee

Something discreet and simple may work. Just not a full on particle effect.

So let the VIPs have fancy attack particles, different to the boring generic ones non-VIPs get.

This is almost a violation of the EULA, you're able to pay for something that enhances gameplay in a way that makes it easier for you to progress.

I see what you're saying here, and that makes a lot of sense. I'd point out that a sword can have associated particles, a "swish" through the air. And a spear, similar thing, some "swish."

I don't know precisely what particle could be used for that, but if it were a curved white path I think it would work well. Is the 1.9+ attack "particle" something which can be created by a plugin?

I agreed already that a simpler cosmetic affect could work. You'd need to work something out, though.

It's not a violation of EULA, not even close. It's doesn't affect gameplay nearly as much as you think. In fact, those particles really aren't much more accurate than just guessing.
Problem is that a "swish", as you've said, doesn't really have an associated visual. A curved white path a) is likely not possible and b) if it were, there's a high chance that it would end up being obtrusive rather than helpful.

Perhaps just a few simple dots, or critical effects, in a small bunch near the cross-hair?
