"Certainly. We found one of the ships thanks to a draconian."

 

Iruk seems to have overheard the conversation.
"Those generator chips were made roughly... ten, fifteen thousand years ago? Something along those lines." He says.

Kailee seats you on her back as she heads off towards the forest, looking for any animal at all.

It seems to be completely silent.

"Really? That's great! Wait... there are draconians in your kingdom?"

 

"No wonder they're so shoddy. I'm surprised they were able to make them function at all," The Shadow says, "No offence to you, Iruk, of course. I can see you're a finely built robot."

 

"I'm just surprised they still work as well as they do." Iruk mutters.

 

"I'm surprised you're only getting upgraded now, but I'm glad to be of service. Robotics is a passion of mine." The Shadow says, working on some soldering. She seems to be able to focus on her work yet hold a conversation perfectly fine.

 

"The Hive doesn't upgrade, they scrap. Ranged assassins have long taken favor over melee like me."

 

"Ah, but true skill comes in building a machine that can silently take down a target and get away without being seen. Anyone can point and shoot someone from a safe distance, but those who can get in close before sneaking away? Those are truly the skilful ones." The Shadow says, clearly passionate about stealth too.

 

"Ah, our leaders have different strategies. I'm meant for killing the target and every first responder, not surgical strikes. If I were to fall, the chips short and detonate."

 

"Shame." The Shadow says, soldering chips together.

 

"I take it stealth is valued highly in your society? Funny how your king has shaky relations with Ruby." Iruk chuckles.

 

"Only one. He has identified himself as not part of The Hive, and he has only learned of the resistance today."

 

"Oh. Did you let him live in your kingdom?" Ihra asks, curious.

 

"He is under my protection as of now as he knows where the location off e other airships are. His name is Ren."

 

"Huh. Maybe you should keep an eye on him over us. Isn't that more important to you?"

 

"Yes, however, my studies are just as important." I say, showing my journal to Ihra.

 

"But you've studied us... haven't you? Why not make sure he's okay?"

 

"This is probably the point where I find he's dead and has unleashed some kind of demon." I say, "A very cliché story."
I teleport over to where Ren was.

 

"What?"

...

Ren's not visible, a pile of dirt next to the hole he dug with a metallic scratching noise irritating your ears.

 

I look into the hole.

 

Ren is scratching at some kind of deadbolt on a metal crate, wearing it down quite a bit.
