"I know your name. That's not the point of this. You are metal and contain robotics, thus for all most people care, you're a robot. Now, how else am I mistaken?" Ruby asks, slowly becoming impatient.

 

"I have a soul." Eve says.

 

"Not the first robot to have a soul. Continue."

 

Eve stays silent.

 

"Okay, then. Why did you think firing anything at Ihra was smart?"

 

"I was making sure she wasn't an illusion. She is not harmed." Eve says.

 

"Only her opinion of you is. Now, I'll take my leave." Ruby says, vanishing.

Iruk stares into Eve blankly, saying nothing.

 

Eve stares back just as blank, if not more.

 

"Another bot. No wonder you went straight for the power core..." He groans.

 

"I am not like you. I am far more advanced." Eve says.

 

"And more naive, it seems." Iruk retorts, frustrated. "Just because I was built to be shut down at any time doesn't mean I don't have a soul, asshole!"

 

"You don't know my life." Eve says, turning away.

 

"Likewise." Iruk growls. "Don't let your ego get the best of your free will, or we will always be rejects at the end of the day."

 

"I'm not a reject!" Eve shouts suddenly, "I was taken in and loved! I'm not a reject!"

Eve's eyes start to tear up.

 

Iruk sighs.
"Yeah, I wasn't a reject either. None of us are, but all of us will be. That's why I envy bios."

 

"E-Even they're r-rejected." Eve says, starting to cry.

"M-Mum..." Eve says quietly, crying.

 

Iruk pauses.
"You were one, then you became a mecha, didn't you? Were you given a choice?"

 

Eve nods, crying.

 

"I envy you for having a choice." Iruk sighs, handing Eve a cloth.

 

"I-I was dying..." Eve says, accepting the cloth and wiping her eyes.
