"Easy, actually. Learn the ritual by watching others, summon a shadow, defeat it before it can return, and use the shadow crystal, and shattered crystal dust, for research. I saw one shadow be crushed that way, and her remains were promptly replicated and put under various experimental conditions... it's brutal, if nothing else."

 

"Dammit." I say, "They're taking the low tier ones. They're easy to summon."

 

"And they're building up from there. Is there anything you can do to stop them from summoning more?"

 

"Yeah, I'll try my best to prevent them from being summoned." I say, disappearing.

 

Ruby takes Eve back to the group, then looks at Ihra.
"Please enlighten me when it was a good idea to shoot ANYTHING at her?"

 

Eve just looks at Ruby blankly.

 

Ruby sighs.
"Still thinking about shooting me?"

 

"No." Eve says, looking away.

 

"There's something between us. Speak, or I'll search your AI and see what you do in your free time."

 

"You don't want to do that." Eve says flatly.

 

"I never want to. It often disgusts me. Did you know Sgavrinn dreams of being as big as Rineth? It's adorably stupid."

 

"I don't think you can handle my AI." Eve says.

 

"I think we underestimate each other. I conjure stars, generally to blow people up with. You're an elite robot who can land shots through teleportation, time flux, and cloaks. I'd be damned if either of us really have free time."

 

"Some of that is true." Eve says.

 

"Correct me before I finish deciphering your AI. I'm a quarter of the way there."

 

"You won't decipher all of it. I can confirm that." Eve says.

 

"So then tell me why I'm wrong, I hate it when people waste my time."

 

"Because," Eve says, turning to Ruby, "I am more than just AI."

 

"Possible to classify you as a cyborg, though technically inaccurate. You're not much different than a mecha worth a fortune."

 

"You can calssify me as many things, but I am Eve." Eve says.
