"In the first place though, why would Aj call Ruby a murderer?"

 

"You'd have to ask him. Ruby just proved Aj has no intentions of letting her apologize, and it worries me she read him so well."

 

Ruby still feels the hold, like a leech. It weakens as she leaves, but is still persistent.

Meanwhile, I look at my finished voodoo doll with pride.

 

"You didn't get the horns right." She says, looking over your shoulder.

 

"It works. It just needs attachment to the soul." I say calmly.

 

"Shame I provided you Katie's there." She says, carefree. "Though, you could at least tell me I was right about you before I leave."

 

I sigh.

"I honestly don't want to fight. If you're thinking of being civil, then I just have one question. Why?" I ask.

 

"Why what? By the way, this is an illusion. Like hell I'd trust you with the real me... or the staff."
She pauses.
"Why I wanted to kill Amber? Why I locked you in her body for a non-fatal attack to mess with you? Or why your guards want me dead?"

 

"Why did you mess with me like that? This is the entire reason I've wanted you dead. You betrayed my trust, Ruby." I ask.

 

"I don't care what I've done, but I figured I'd give you something to do. Things get boring when every other phrase out of you is 'I'm bored' or something along those lines." She says. "Though, I believe a few of your people died while I was melting Amber."

 

"So, are you trying to kill me or not?" I ask.

 

"No, I never was."

 

"Then I have no reason to kill you. Let's rekindle our trust with each other and shake hands. In person." I say.

 

"I think I'll decline. You've been pretty bent, and if I'm being honest, you deceived me, or tried to, exactly as you said you would. I may have lost your trust, but you should realize there is two sides to this."

 

"Then I'll just trust you and no longer attempt to kill you." I say.

 

"Maybe. Hmm... I don't know."

 

"I'll send Eve back if you want." I say.

 

"Tell her not to kill me and I'll continue protecting you from the shadows."

 

I nod at this.

 

"I shall." I say honestly.
