"Might I ask what kind of magic is in the tome?" Ragnyon asks, now with youthful curiosity.

 

"It's a guide on how to use magic, information on magical beings and artifacts, that kind of thing. I found it when I was really young in my parent's library, and I've kept it ever since," Stephanie says, "It's taught me all I know about magic."

 

"What kind of artifacts?" Ragnyon asks, looking somewhere between captivated and unsure why she's acting like this.

 

"Mage crystals, armour, charms, that sort of thing." Stephanie says happily.

 

"Anything about gods or mythic weapons?" Ragnyon asks, again trying to understand where her excitement is coming from.

 

Stephanie nods, flipping through the pages in her tome.

 

Ragnyon peeks over her shoulder.

 

It seems to be a chapter on pure mage crystals and their power.

 

"Isn't... isn't that what Ruby has?"

 

"What?" Stephanie says, stopping on a random page.

 

"That crystal... I saw her with one, I could've sworn."

 

"What colour was it?" Stephanie asks, flipping back through the pages.

 

"I... agh... something like a transparent-ish white... maybe it was just a light magic staff she nabbed from someone."

 

Stephanie flips to a page with a drawing of the crystal described. Big red "WARNING" letters are written under the picture.

 

"Well shit." Ragnyon says blankly.

 

Stephanie passes the tome to Ragnyon for her to read.

 

Ragnyon scans the page closely, pauses, then hands it back to Stephanie.
"I can't read the common tongue, only speak it."

 

"Oh, what do you read?" Stephanie asks.

 

"Dacori. I wasn't taught any other language."

 

Stephanie closes the tome, before putting a hand over the eye on the cover and saying, as clear as possible, "Translate, Dacori." The eye begins to swirl on the tome.
