"Why don't we slip into a back alley and talk, girl? You're going to be killed, mask or not, if the guards see you."

 

Stephanie nods, before sliding down the wall and grabbing her skateboard.

 

The draconian slides behind a few buildings, walking impossibly fast.

If she was one second sooner, the worker would've seen her.

 

Stephanie skates after the draconian.

 

She slips by unnoticed.

"Alright, speak. I can't rescind the kill-on-sight order, but I can't live well with lies."

 

"What do you want?" Stephanie asks.

 

"Why you killed them, then to help you out."

 

"Because they were horrible to me." Stephanie says.

 

"So you killed them? Maybe I shouldn't have defended you."

 

"They couldn't appreciate the work I'd put trying to help them, and yelled at me for making a slight mistake despite me doing all the work I did for free." Stephanie says.

 

"I heard you destroyed the generator, then they were angry. Is that correct?"

 

"No, I gave the generator power." Stephanie says.

 

"Too much, clearly. The explosion killed them all, as you already know. So... Why'd you overcharge it?"

 

"To...supply power." Stephanie lies.

 

"Heart rate spike denotes a lie. Now, tell me why."

 

"It's not my fault if they're babies who get scared." Stephanie says casually.

 

"So you killed them because they cowered when you threatened them? Pitiful. I was hoping you'd have reasons that wouldn't make me sound like a fool when I defend you from the other council members."

 

"No, I was talking about the heart rate spike." Stephanie says, annoyed.

 

"Well, I'm saying you're lying, and you know it."

 

"People lie all the time, get over it." Stephanie says.
