"And what exactly is special about said Birthlake?" I ask.

 

There is a large lake in the middle of the forest. The lake shore seems to be soft and is surprisingly made out of a white sand.
The lake seems to almost glow with magic.

Even though I'm a mushroom with no gender, I prefer to go by 'he'.

"The Birthlake is the lake in the centre of the forest. It is the source of magic which created the forest, and the Birthlake was created by Eras."

"Hey, where did Ihra go?"
I ask the group.

 

"Oh, hello. I guess you don't have telepathy?" I sign.

"No idea." I say.

 

Ihra puts her tail in the water.


Ragnyon seems to be able to understand via the spectral plane. Her spirit form hovers just below the ground.
"How's it going, Por?"

"I'll go look in a moment."

 

Hythania says, "I didn't see her go, but she probably went through there."
She points to the gap in the trees at the end of the path. You can't see anything beyond the gap because the light is so bright.

He signs, Yes, I can, but only if you make the link. Same with all beings here in the forest.

Magic swirls around her tail. It feels comforting and refreshing.

I'm fine, thanks.

 

"Oh, that's unfortunate. I can only make telepathic links if I possess beings." I sign.

 

"Ihra can make telepathic links... If we could find her. Did you see a green draconian run off, by chance?"


She puts one foot in, then looks at the reflection in the lake.

 

"I'll go accompany her. Is that fine with everyone?"

"That's alright." Stephanie says.

 

"Ah, alright."

 

"If you can find her, I see no problems."

"I think they come with basic enchantments depending on their color, however. I believe grey grants resistance to strong winds... Not sure how it's useful, but I guess not being able to be picked up by a tornado is a bit of comfort."

"No idea what a 'tornado' is. Anyway, I guess I should be going."

 

"You won't want to know. Don't melt yourself!"

 

"What will happen if it, say, dried up? Will the forest fizzle out?"

Oh, Ihra? No, I didn't. But she can't have gone far, so she probably went past the end of the path.

The magic swirls around her foot and makes her feel relaxed.
The surface of the lake, even after Ihra steps in the lake, is surprisingly still. It ripples slightly when she touches it, but the ripples don't move across the lake.

She looks at you suspiciously.
"The magic there makes sure the lake is contained where it should be. In a sense, the lake itself is sentient, so it would move wherever it wanted to."

 

"Hmm...now, if you take a sample of the sentient water and put in, say, the ocean, will the ocean become sentient?"

 

"Sure." I sign.

"In that case, I'll go find Ihra."
I say, going farther down the path than the rest of the group.

 

"Alright, thanks."

Ihra slowly gets in deeper into the water, still curious.
