Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Looks like it." Abigail says, lowering herself to the ground and holding a flame in her hand.

"Do you think we'll find treasure?" Abigail asks, looking around for any passages.

 

"Thanks." I say, leaving the shop. I walk out of the city and knock on the door of Dr. Warren's house.

 

"I don't know. Considering we are in the ruins of a kingdom of someone who's with us, I don't think we should disturb the ruins. It'd be like going and demolishing a childhood home in front of the former owner."

Opal opens the door.
"Morning... I think. You about ready?"

 

"That's true, and- Oh hey look, a chest!" Abigail says, running down a passage. A wooden chest can be seen at the end of it, just lit by Abigail's flame.

 

"Were you even listening?!" Iruk shouts, running after Abigail.

 

"Yeah, but treasure!" Abigail shouts back.

Abigail lights up the chest with her flame, careful not to damage it. She seems hesitant about opening it.

"Do...do you think it's trapped?" Abigail asks.

 

"Probably."

 

"Hmm...maybe it's a mimic...I've had enough run ins with those when Stephanie's pranked me." Abigail says nervously.

"Ah screw it! I'm just gonna open it!" Abigail says, flinging open the chest and jumping back.

Luckily, nothing happens. It appears the chest was normal.

Abigail walks back to the chest, looking inside.

"What the hell?" Abigail exclaims.

 

"What? Is something inside?"

 

Abigail pulls out a strange looking staff. The top seems to split apart and twirl around itself before joining back together to hold a pure white crystal within the twirled-prison it created.

"It's a staff?" Abigail says, looking at the staff confused.

 

"See if Myria knows how to get it to work."

 

"I was thinking Stephanie, but I guess Myria is from another time." Abigail says, heading back towards the exit of the dungeon.

"Do you think if you can reach the crystal to rub it, a genie will come out and grant wishes?" Abigail asks as she walks.

 

"What the hell? That's the dumbest thing I've heard! It's a staff! It channels spells!"
Pause.
"...I think."

 

"Yeah, it's usually oil lamps that contain genies." Abigail says, suddenly grabbing Iruk and flying him out of the dungeon, back into the crater.

 

His blades slot back into his wings.

"Well, are you bringing it to Stephanie or Myria?"

 

"Myria, following your suggestion." Abigail says, heading out of the crater.

"Hey Myria! I found this staff in a dungeon, can you check it out to see if it's magical or something?" Abigail shouts, running over to Myria.

 

"Abigail, promise me you won't go treasure hunting every free moment you have."

 

"Should I raid tombs instead and look super sexy?" Abigail asks, grinning.

"What an odd looking staff," Myria comments looking at the staff, "The crystal certainly looks powerful. Maybe you could try to get Stephanie to operate it?"

 

"That's no better." Iruk mutters.
"Stephanie?"

 

Abigail runs over to Stephanie.

"Make this work." Abigail says, giving Stephanie the staff.

"Whoa, where'd you find this?" Stephanie asks, weighing the staff in her hands.

"Dungeon." Abigail says.

"Alright, I'll see what I can do." Stephanie says, pointing the staff away from the group. The crystal starts glowing, getting brighter and brighter before it becomes unbearable to look at. A blast of pure magical energy is sent flying from the end of the staff, knocking Stephanie back.

"Whoa, this thing is dangerous!" Stephanie says, getting back up.
