Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

I put my hands in the air, showing I have no weapons, "Sir," I whisper. "A doctor is operating on my friend, and he requires complete concentration. He was stabbed by a bandit outside the city. I'm not entirely sure what happened, but the doctor says it's bad, and he needs to stay focused. A major artery was scraped, but he can still be saved."

 

His jaw drops when you say "major artery," and he nods.
"I'm sorry. How long does he need?"

 

"A few more hours." I whisper. "If you need something from here, it may take a while. I may be able to get it for you, though."

 

"No, I was just checking every room. I'll be on the first floor if something comes up. Stairwell doors should be locked."

 

"Thank you." I whisper, taking a seat in a chair and waiting for him to enter the elevator.

 

He never left the door.
As it goes to the first floor, you feel relieved.

 

"Doc, we have another few hours. Is that enough?" I ask quietly.

 

"More than, thank you."

 

I sit and wait in silence.

 

The longest hour of your life passes, and then the doctor comes to you.
"Hey, I just thought of an issue. I don't have a way to get your friend out of here unseen."

 

"Couldn't we use the same method as we did befo-" I stop, remembering the guard. "What'll they do if the guard sees him? The people here aren't exactly...friendly...with non-humans. I suppose I could cause a distraction, but I'd rather not break the law."

 

"You don't plan to show up in town again, do you? I've got a blowgun and a tranquilizer..."

 

"We do not, but wouldn't you get caught? Even if you told the guards that you had nothing to do with the 'dragon creature and crazy human', they'd be smart enough to put two and two together, right?"

 

"He can't even see you in the dark."
Pause.
"Here, this way's safer. Can you stuff your friend in a crate, fourth floor? I can pass him off as something I need to bring home. I'll have you come with me up front in the wagon. You've got about half an hour before the other guard wakes up, so good luck."

 

"Okay." I say to the doctor. I turn to Opal, asking, "Are you able to walk? We need to get to the fourth floor."

 

"Yeah... that's about it..." He mumbles.

 

I walk him to the elevator, then press the button to the fourth floor. "It's almost over. The doc made sure you were okay, but after this we need to find someone skilled in magic."

 

"Alright... how much longer to the island?"

 

"I wouldn't know. Pretty soon we have to resupply."

 

Elyra looks to see if the gate's still open.
