"The Infernal Beast is helping us, just like the person down there. I didn't expect him to come here... this is just going to complicate things."
The figure, noticing that Kai has left, flies into the air and towards me and Rina.

"I haven't heard of someone like that. Sorry I didn't come sooner, I was in the library. I never knew I read books so much..."

 

"Oh... Whoops. Who's that?"

"You killed about twenty six hours in there, according to Ruby. Her skills are impressive, no? It's a shame she's rooted to that machine... Someone had mortally wounded her, and now she's sustained by it. They literally absorbed every drop of blood she had. I haven't found a healer good enough to free her, but she's served me well. I still wish to uphold my end of the bargain; I'd let her live in exchange for her service. I'm sure, if I find a good society, that mortals will find her useful."

 

"I'm rather curious now." Katie says happily.

"Sgavrinn...do you think you could protect me for a bit? I want to try something that will take most of my concentration. If...if it goes successfully...well, I shouldn't plan so far ahead for that outcome. I just hope I can learn how to save them, by...contacting someone I've never really met; and can't meet any other way." Artemis says, before sitting down to meditate.

"Yeah, it's...pretty weird." I say, watching the tendrils.

 

"Sure, master! Good luck."

 

"Thanks, Sgavrinn." Artemis says, before closing her eyes. A faint green glow surrounds her as she meditates.

This seems to catch Stephanie's attention, who takes Artemis' voodoo doll out of her cloak; examining it. After a short moment, she puts it back, giving Artemis a slightly concerned look.

 

"What's the matter, Stephanie?" Ragnyon asks, confused.

 

"Artemis, she's doing spiritual shenanigans. As much as she's more in tune with it, I can't help but feel concerned for her safety," Stephanie says, "You might be able to see it; since you're half ethereal, and saw that spectral bolt in Katie."

Artemis' necklace seems to be glowing rather brightly.

 

"I can see it... It's just bizzare. If it's a spirit she wants, I hope she knows I can be used as the connection... Right?"

 

"I'm not sure. If she's going after her parents, she'll probably want them in a more 'Physical' form; though it'd probably be her father in that case. She's never really 'met' her mother; poor girl." Stephanie says.

"Somehow I feel as if my group of friends, as well as I, have been cursed to have bad upbringings or events in childhood," Stephanie says, somewhat distant, "Artemis' parents, Abigail's bullies...my childhood..."

 

"Uhh... this is where things get complicated because..."
(I'm guessing, now that they are closer and because of past events, Rina would be able to recognise them. I mean, Lisa recognised Idala as his daughter because of what she looked like)

"Yes, she is an excellent librarian. She was able to find some interesting novels in a language I know. Knowing where every book in that library is a great talent."

Tendrils start coming out of the magical aura again. This time, the tendrils move towards everyone in the group, as well as multiplying into more so that there is one for everyone.
"Uhh... don't ask me what this thing is doing..."
You notice that Idala is starting to stir in her sleep.

 

Abigail seems wary, a fireball growing in her hand. Stephanie surrounds herself in a shield, its purple sheen showing its presence. Katie forms a pool in front of her and dives in. Artemis continues to meditate.

"You know I'm going to ask you what this thing is doing," I say, "Is it some weird space alien trying to have its way with everyone?"

 

"Err... I don't know."
One tendril splits off to follow Katie. Another, which was heading towards Stephanie stops at the shield. It seems it can't get through.
The others just continue towards their targets, except Aj and Thirteen who have already been examined by them.
And Hythania, who has just finished being scanned.
Hryth drools on the ground in front of him. The tendril which was going towards him stops to inspect a Speech Flower created by the drool. It then continues towards Hryth.
"Whatever it is, there isn't a way for it to take in the Speech Flower's magic, or it would probably have started speaking by now."

 

Katie's pool freezes over, the area around it turning icy too. Stephanie's shield spikes the tendril, and Abigail blasts off with her magma boots; using her hands to increase her speed.

"It's probably trying to find our weaknesses and possess us or kill us or something," I say, putting my hands out in front of me, "Aliens."

 

"Shed blood paints the future, that's what my predecessor told me."

"Claire, slow him down."

Gale winds slow his advance.

Aria wakes up.
"Morning already? Mmmnnnnn... Can we go get Kai now?"

"For a mortal, she's commendable. Do you by chance know a healer?"

She's still crawling to her hoard.

 

"I think that's more literal in your case." Stephanie says, chuckling slightly.

Stephanie glances back at Artemis; who hasn't changed. Her necklace gives the area around her a green hue.

 

Ragnyon looks for a visible spirit.
"Fair point."

 

There doesn't seem to be any spirits around that may relate to Artemis, however a green shield can be seen around her; most likely protecting her body from possession.

"I hope Artemis finds who she's looking for and gets back safely..." Stephanie says, giving Artemis a concerned glance, "How's she doing?"

 

The tendril following Abigail starts increasing in speed too. However, it isn't as fast as Abigail.
The tendril which was stopped by the shield withdraws slightly but continues to stay near Stephanie.
The tendril following Katie can't get past the ice but just stays there.
Two tendrils reach Hryth and the wyvern. Three more head for Aura, Idala and Artemis.

More tendrils make their way towards Ihra, Ragnyon, Reed, Lera, 'Vulneratis' and even Virei'tus.

Daras just teleports past the wind.
"Ugh, can you please not? I try to help you and all I get is wind in my face?"

"The only healer I know of is Hythania. She's a witch who is currently near to Ihra."

 

Abigail throws a fireball at the following tendril, before increasing her speed; the flames from her magma boots growing. Katie's icy pool lets out a large jet of water, which freezes around the tendril. The tendril headed for Artemis seems to hit a shield of some kind; an incredibly potent one at that.

"Me no likey this magic aura anymore." I say.

 

"There's a barrier around her. Here, if you don't mind..."
Ragnyon's spirit form enters Stephanie's body, allowing her to see the spectral plane.

Ragnyon tries to scramble out of the way, falling.

Ihra is...

...not here?

Virei'tus smites the tentacles near him.

"I thought you were trying to kill us... I'm sorry."
"Rina, where are we?" A sleepy Aria utters.
-----
"That's a problem. I suppose I'll have to keep looking."

The blood trail gets smaller, and she starts to pick ip her pace.
