Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Huh. Whoever the writer of this was, probably ran out of things to write. Pity. That one instead." I motion to another memoir.

 

Since you've been following the rp as it goes, you're not awkwardly behind, so no. It's not bad.

He opens it.

It's a prisoner's recap of a rather horrid prison. Seems like he was one of very few to leave alive, guards included.
It was apparently attacked by Xlentia.

 

"Huh." I say. I motion to another memoir. "That one."

 

It's one on an author who went from the streets to giving to those on the streets by writing children's storybooks.
The story in there as an example doesn't interest you at all. It's about a frog that gets run over.

 

"Hah," I murmur. "Well, It's too much of a hassle for both of us for me to try to read as a totem. I'll just come back here next time."

 

"Heh, it's fine. I spend most of my days in here, seeing there's not much else to do. In fact, the noise level may not show it, but I'd guess there are a couple hundred of us in here. A little conversation is tolerated, though. Our shifts are odd since there's no sun cycle to measure time against here, but we get a reasonable amount of free time; we all have plenty to talk about by the time our shifts end. Pretty nice, if you ask me. Plus, if you clean the shelves in your native language, there's a whole normal-sized room full of language learning and translation dictionaries. Hell, Mistress had to find a preserver to serve as the librarian, there's so many books. She's a bit... tied in place... but apparently she likes it that way. I could bring you to her if you'd like."

 

"Impressive. Sure, why not."

I look around for Ihra.
I need to ask her and Ragnyon something.

 

He carries you past a couple dozen rows of bookshelves, finally coming to a path that leads straight to the exit on one side. On the other, a draconian with extremely long horns seemingly imbedded in the wall behind her levitates gently behind a desk. Her eyes are shut.

"Ruby? I wanted to show you one of the newcomers. He's a bit stuck as a totem."
She opens her eyes. They're a deep, dark purple and seem even deeper when you look at them.
"Helianthus, is it?"
She looks at your totem with a patient smile.

"Hey, Ihra, Ragnyon?"
I start asking.
"Do either of you happen to know anything about Draconians per say... possessing items? I'm not exactly sure what the word is for it."

 

"Yes. Greetings. I'll assume you're the preserver?"

 

"That sounds weird."
"You mean something like imbuing our souls into objects to be able to have awareness from them?"

"Yes. I am Ruby, the head librarian. I track the location of almost every book in this room. When people are new, I can pull books off shelves for them, but most people, luckily for me, start to get to know where the books they like are on their own. Unlike some others, I am not mind controlled. I am here by choice, and I find my job rather relaxing."
She pauses.
"Though it does get a bit lonely at times, sorry to ramble."

 

"If that consists of weighing the object down a ton, then yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Now, how would someone get a draconian out of an object? For example, if they were dying or dead, and someone wanted them out."

 

I fly over to Ihra and Ragnyon. "Did you guys know there's a draconian in The Void that isn't mind controlled?"

"I see...well, it was a pleasure meeting you."

 

"Wh-oh. Your blade? You'd have to pull your blade out like the sword in the stone. If they're mind controlled, be weary what you do to them; the control is broken in their dying moments, so the last thing they'll remember is you standing above them with a weapon."

"There is?"
-Void-
"You as well."
She closes her eyes again.

"So... Anywhere in particular you'd like to go next?"

 

"So just yank the sword with a bunch of passion. Might it be better if I find a way to stick it in the ground first?"
Pause.
"And for the record, I stood above neither of them with the weapon. It actually fell on one of them while the other was inside."

 

"Yes, her name is Ruby. She's the head librarian of Xlentia's library."

"I think I'm fine. Maybe just drop me off somewhere. I have things to do in my world."

 

"I'm saying when you pull it out and they start bleeding to death, the last thing they'll consciously see is you with a weapon in hand."
"What if I heal them?"
"I-"
"Please? Thirteen, what if they're not bad, and were just mind controlled? I want to help my people, even if it's in a roundabout way like this!"

"I didn't know she had a library. What's it like? Is it nice?"
-Void-
"Understood. How about just outside the library? It'll be easy to get someone to help you if you need it there."

 

"It is pretty large. It seems Xlentia is an avid reader. According to her, it's very popular with her servants, and I can see why."

"That will be good. Thank you."

 

"That's completely fine with me. I don't really hold grudges much. If you want an example, try Reed's case. The guy held a blade to my neck. I don't care. Well, mainly because he was being controlled, but so where these guys. Hopefully they're not generally mean, however..."
Pause again.
"Well, there's no time like now."
I say, jumping from the hand, and gliding down with my boots, still clutching my bloody leg.
