Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Temporus' hand seems to already be there to catch Petunia's hand, an oddly strong amount of force behind it.

"Ah, it's so cute when people think they're stronger than they are." Temporus says, tone returning to a more serious one.

 

Temporus winds up getting slapped in the face anyways, just seemingly not physically by Petunia's hand.
"Can you replace my dad? That's a better compliment than he's ever given me," Petunia complains, "or at least less of an insult than he usually hurls my way."
"Seriously, bring her over already. Morbid curiosity, at this point," Iris sighs.

 

"Considering the various issues we faced with Praecantatia having a child, I don't believe someone of my position can adopt." Temporus explains.

 

“Stephanie is fine, though!” Petunia pouts.
“Except for when she gets hurt and Praecantatia almost destroys her own reality as if doing so would protect Stephanie,” Iris sighs.
“And? Dad’s destroying our reality, so what’s the difference?”

 

"Praecantatia was lucky with Stephanie. However, someone like me having a child would be...frowned upon by the other gods, to keep it brief." Temporus explains.

 

“Half of your gods have had kids. Besides, I could be your little secret. You know, like how you don’t tell them about their past? I could make sure they don’t remember our relationship.”

 

"The 'children' gods like Gaia refer to are generally mortal souls. They are not direct kin or, in my case, an adoption from a neighboring reality." Temporus says, sighing.

 

“What, do you have a grudge against immortal kids?” Petunia asks, seeming more confused.

 

"We were entrusted with this universe and it's alternate selves to protect it from harm. We are already incredibly powerful beings, and sharing a large portion - if not almost all - our power with another is far too dangerous when we ourselves are immortal. We have no reason to create others to replace us, for we cannot die until this universe dies," Temporus explains, "I only train an elite few to extend my reach. Praecantatia's daughter won't be able to reach her full potential without removing Praecantatia from the picture first, and due to their mother and daughter bond muddying her potential, I very much doubt that will happen."

 

“If you’re supposed to protect it, then why do you keep screwing up and ending everything?” Petunia asks, even more confused.
“He doesn’t like the fact that there are kids stronger than he is,” Iris interjects bluntly.
“And? He of all people should know that kid is a relative term.”

 

"Such is the chaotic nature of time. I do not fully control it. Like riding a raging river, I can only steer my boat so much. Sometimes I make it through safely, other times I crash into the rocks and drown," Temporus explains prolifically, "The rocks can kill me however many times they want, however. I need only make it through safely once."

 

“And how are you so sure that having us around would guarantee a failed outcome?”

 

"Guarantee, no. Greatly increase the chance of by introducing an unpredictable factor into an already delicate balance, though?" Temporus says, trailing off.

 

“What if I promise not to manipulate fate against you behind your back?” Petunia asks, her tone more persuasive than her words.

 

"Is that a threat?" Temporus asks, suspicious.

 

“Yes?”
“Could you at least take her in long enough not to be this stupid?”
“Hey!”

 

"No, I don't think I shall. Stephanie may remain, though the other gods - including myself - should not be having children to care for. Especially those that can manipulate the core fabric of reality." Temporus explains.

 

“The alternative is literally she continues being raised by The Hive Master,” Iris groans.
“Oh, right, I was supposed to tell you that you’ll have to try again if you want to stop him. He then expected me to remember some really long speech, but I just nodded my head and came here.”

 

"He's getting cocky, it seems. His hubris will be his downfall eventually." Temporus comments offhandedly.

 

“He’s won in the vast majority of timelines, I wouldn’t bet too much on waiting for him to make any more mistakes than he has.”
