Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Well, as we've said before, we're not with the demons on a personal level." The forest guardian says.

"Can't you bring her back?" The earth guardian asks.


"So just bring her back to our reality where we don't have such stupid systems and resurrect her there!" The incubus says defiantly.

"What causes that memory wipe?" The half spider inquires.

 

“Once a soul detached from a body leaves the spectral plane, it retains no memories of who or what it once was. Resurrection is moot; you’d simply be bringing back someone who didn’t even know how to breathe.”


“Leaving the spectral plane. Bringing her through the rift would trigger the same effect, and the reason you are forced to enter and leave with The Silver King is so you do not lose yourselves on entry or exit either. Unfortunately, this has been proven to affect othersouls; meaning, regrettably, you lot cannot properly resurrect here either,” they explain, sounding almost sympathetic.
“Since that cat’s out of the bag, the other reason your souls are going to be anchored here is so you don’t go braindead when you try to take the 80 year journey through the Hive Master’s territory.”

 

"That's...odd. The soul is a constant, the body is just a physical incarnation. Is there some kind of...filter between your realms?" The forest guardian asks.


"Has this place been hit with some kind of a memory-affecting curse then?" The slime demon asks.

 

“It’s simply an incompatibility with the way the physical and spectral plane are woven together here, as unfortunate as it is; though the soul as a constant doesn’t change in a literal sense, they often wind up being a different person.”


“No, it’s due to the distortion between the physical and spectral planes. Whoever wove this reality made the connection safely go only one way; living to dead.”

 

"Like...you've been incarnated into a different body?" The forest guardian asks, trying to piece things together.


"So...why can't you get the silver king to fix that? He seems pretty powerful to me." The slime demon says, managing to properly form after getting out from under the incubus.

The bat demon quietly tries to open the exit door, getting nervous. The succubus closes her eyes, seeming to pray to a higher power to get her out of the current situation.

 

“Not necessarily; just a clean slate of a mind. People shape themselves based off their surroundings; and unless care is taken to raise them just as they were, their personality would likely shift.”


“The gods are not here to fix your mistakes. The long and the short of it is that the couple will be sent back after admin records their testimonies.”
“The Silver King may work around the edges of reality to bring her back, but not without penalizing the shooter for it.”

The guard opens the door for the bat demon, though a barrier prevents the others from getting out.

 

"So no part of them remains? You can't jog their memory with items from their previous life?" The forest guardian asks, surprised.


The bat demon scampers out, terrified but happy to be freed. She screeches to get a better view of her surroundings, regular vision blurred by fear and stress.

The bat demon stumbles around almost drunkenly, regarding any guard - or any native of the reality for that matter - she sees with the fear a small animal noticing a looming predator would. She manages to make it back to the common area before she collapses from the stress, taking a moment on the floor to regain her strength. After a short while, she manages to drag herself over to a corner to keep watch in front of her, occasionally chirping to properly view whatever is in front of her. Between her chips, however, she mutters to herself.

"They're going to kill me, or the people here are going to kill me, or they're going to torture me, and I'm going to forget everything." The bat demon whimpers.

 

“Unfortunately, that is correct.”


After a brief moment of recovery, someone seems to have left a small fruit basket near her.

 

"So what's going to happen?" The earth guardian asks.


The bat demon regards the fruit basket with skepticism at first, lightly poking it to see if anything happens before eating the fruit. She stays aware of any sounds around her, however, listening out for anyone approaching.

 

“We will bury the child and send both her murderer and his partner back home. I just hope this doesn’t change The Silver King’s mind regarding these diplomatic affairs...”


The fruit is, anticlimactically, normal fruit. Same with the basket.

Nobody else comes into the commons, but she can sense someone standing behind the commons gate.

 

"Well, I doubt you'll find one of us being behind an intentional homicide. The demons aren't really a good representation of our reality." The earth guardian admits.


The bat demon eats the fruit to recover her strength a little, calming down as she does so.

What appears to be a large eyeball rolls up to the commons area, staring at whoever resides behind the commons gate. It appears to have some kind of small tentacle in place of an optic nerve, likely to allow it to move around.

 

“For both our sakes, I hope not... a war of that scale would ruin more lives than even a machine could count,” they sigh.


There’s a note at the bottom of the basket with a small inscription.
“Follow the following symbol to the mess hall if you’re still hungry - I’m sorry things escalated the way they did down there.
- Hawk, head of Engineering Accommodations for the Blind”
At the bottom of the note is one of the repeating engraved symbols that leads presumably from the guest quarters to the mess hall.

 

"Well...provided the war could start." The earth guardian says.


The bat demon decides to follow the symbol, out of hope for finding someone to confide in rather than getting more food.

The large eyeball rolls into the common area, looking around before following the bat demon.

 

“The Golden Queen has no mercy for your reality, which terrifies me. Before the menace, she used to be more kind than The Silver King is now.”


There’s no guards visible in the commons.

The path leads to the mess hall, though it’s mostly empty bar two guards eating separate from each other.
Presumably, the one with another fruit basket sitting nearby is Hawk.

 

"Seems a little unfair to judge an entire reality for a non-representative mistake." The forest guardian says.


The bat demon heads over to what she assumes is Hawk, though still seems uncomfortable around the guards. The eyeball follows along, hopping over any obstacles in it's way.

 

"I don't disagree, but the responsibility for The Twilight Menace's actions fall on his parents in his passing, and a fight among gods is a fight between realities. The opposition here is just worried about how many people would be killed there; The Golden Queen has made her intentions to simply collapse your reality upon itself to prevent further retaliation clear. None of the other gods agree with her, but... once every thousand years, each god may overrule the vote of the others if they feel particularly strongly about something. The Golden Queen used her most recent overruling to simply wipe your home out completely. That's why we hope things wouldn't get any worse, but the details of reincarnation here were going to be discussed in tomorrow's initiation. We didn't expect anyone to pick a fight this soon."


Hawk makes a clicking sound as she looks over the bat demon.
"You seem fine. Did the spider or slime get hurt?"

 

"That...would be impossible," The air guardian says, "I haven't studied the other religions much, but I know that the gods of space and time hold our reality together."


"I-I don't know. I left them behind, I-I just wanted to get away," The bat demon says nervously, "I'm not going to be executed with them, am I?"

The tentacles from the eyeball expand and multiply, allowing it to stand and look at Hawk.

 

"And if one of them were to die?"


"None of you are being executed. No killing is the first rule of the sparring grounds. Since it's impossible to resurrect with memories intact, it's not something we take lightly here."

Hawk appears to be a somewhat grotesque insectoid with jagged mandibles and dragonfly-esque wings. Her eyes look like they're replaced with glass, however.

 

"I...think that part of our reality would cease to exist." The air guardian says.


Neither the bat demon nor eyeball seem put off by Hawk's appearance, likely used to seeing such things already.

"So...what about my friends? What's going to happen to them?" The bat demon asks, seeming a little more relaxed.

 

"The destabilization would have horrific effects throughout, if not outright collapse everything. To be clear, we want that as little as you do."


"The incubus will be sent back after an interrogation, and we suspect the succubus will go back with him. The others will be questioned at most, along with you should you give consent," Hawk explains, before clicking again.
