Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

They escort them to the rest of the group, before seeming to just unravel into wisps of light.


"You will be able to go elsewhere after initiation. Before then, you're stuck here." Pierre says, ignoring the imp.

 

The four guardians seem rather confused, questioning the legitimacy of the guard's form.


"I thought we were meant to go to our jobs after initiation?" The slime demon inquires.

 

“Initiation is to help us determine which jobs you may be interested in, what climate to designate plots for your homes, and your general personality. We will then present you with a handful of options based off what we think would work best for you, but you will have access to the full catalog of employment listings you are eligible for.” Pierre says, seeming a bit annoyed with himself.
“There really is no way to say that without it sounding like an infomercial...” He mutters.

 

"And what of the least popular jobs?" A demon asks, "Surely by giving us the freedom of choice, there will be a bias to a certain job."

 

"Said bias is reserved for the Shadows and Creatures of Light that truly bear the debt of the menace. Leaving you, the ones we hope ease our people's nerves, with ire seems fundamentally foolish." Pierre says. "The only bias given will be away from things like sewer maintenance, lest you explicitly ask for listings in those fields."

 

"I could handle that." A forest guardian with mushrooms sprouting from their head offers.

"A lot of the jobs will be construction efforts, correct?" An earth guardian queries.

 

"Not a notable majority, no. Maintenance is more prevalent; followed by contract day jobs, lab tests if you're on the crazy side, and then construction jobs." Pierre explains.

"As for your offer," he continues, turning to the forest guardian, "if you are still willing to stomach that, you are free to take that job. I... recommend almost anything else, though."

 

"What sort of lab tests would we endure?" A water guardian asks.

"I could probably survive those tests." A slime demon comments.

 

“Some things are simple like donating a sample of your blood for general study or a classroom lab, or trying to use machines in low to zero-g environments. Others are a bit more rigorous, like testing potential safety measures or volunteering a part of your body for medical research. Some beings are terribly sensitive to magic or have an adverse reaction, so research teams have been ceaselessly working to find equivalent treatments to magic. Alternatively, if you can stomach the more menial tasks, you may also work as a lab assistant. It’s generally safer, but you’re more likely to be handling sensitive materials such as organs, contaminated samples, and chemicals.” Pierre explains. “Or, if you’re not adverse to the risk of death and rebirth, we do have listings that you would be subject to tests regarding weaponry, armor, medicines, chemicals, and so on. Essentially, anything unpleasant that people wouldn’t want to have run on them? There’s probably a listing for it.”
Pierre takes another quick note.
“I highly recommend you abstain from such contractual occupations. Not all cover costs of resurrection should death occur, and many come from less savory employers. Do a bit of research on the employer if you still think such jobs are up your alley.” He warns.

 

A few death guardians step forward.

"We know a great deal about anatomy in general, and our bodies are immune to disease and resilient to harm. We can endure damage that would swiftly kill our brethren, and would happily assist in these lab tasks. " One of the death guardians says proudly.

"Showoffs..." A fire guardian mutters quietly.

 

Pierre looks over the death guardians.
"Actually... you may be of great help to one project in particular. There's a virus found in fauna near a small village; and though it ails the living like a flu, it eats through the dead and undead as if it were acid. We've found a cure for those who are alive, but the residents who pass have been forced to honor their dead only by cremation as a result. Furthermore, we've lost quite a few undead to it - at one point, an entire expedition sent to investigate what we think is a grave built in tunnels below the nearby forest." He explains.
"I'll note to put that team's listings up front for you." He says, taking another note.

 

"We'd be happy to help." Another death guardian says, the group heading back into the crowd.

"Does anyone need things forged? I know a few people here who can work with metals as well as I, and we'd make a good blacksmith force." A fire guardian asks.

 

“Smithing jobs are available in more remote places. You may need a few augments if you want to work in the bigger forges, though. All due respect, I’m just not sure you’re able to output the heat of a star on a whim.” Pierre says. “If you’d like, I can note to prioritize smithing jobs and solar forge apprenticeships for your group.”

 

"That'd be excellent." The fire guardian says positively.

"Do...any oceans need cleaning? Or do ponds need maintenance?" A water guardian asks.

 

Pierre jots something down on his clipboard, presumably the note about forging.

"Oceans? I... don't think so. Abyss Stalkers usually keep things relatively clean there. You might be able to help in cities, though. It may not seem like it, but people spend a lot of time trying to keep diverted waterways healthy. Your expertise may help with city planning and other beautification projects. It's easier to work with nature than it is to fight it, after all." He suggests to the water guardian.

 

A lot of the forest guardians seem to nod and hum in agreement at the last statement.

"If there's electrical problems, we'd be happy to help, as us guardians seem to be putting our strengths forward." A storm guardian says, looking over at the demons with a disappointed look.

What looks like a partially-demon girl in a tank top and shorts floats up from the crowd of demons, someone Pierre hadn't originally counted somehow. A magical tome floats away from her grip as she does so, which she seems to attempt to retrieve as the effects of gravity seem to no longer apply to her nor the tome. A succubus appears to jump up and over in the air, grabbing the girl and reuniting her with her book, before descending to the ground with both as the effect appears to end.

 

"Smaller villages and communities may benefit from that, though they lack the infrastructure for large scale supply. Most of the bigger electrical grids are relatively sound, but you might be able to help give some of the moderately large cities the little boost they need to properly expand their power grid." Pierre says, comparing the demon girl with a picture and description of Imp-Chan.

 

They appear to match perfectly, Imp-chan seeming to have appeared from nowhere among the demons.

"If there's any demolition jobs that need doing, we'd be happy to lend a hand." A strong, brutish demon says, size seeming mostly owed to muscle mass.

 

"I'm not sure how much demolition is being called for. There's a lot of... how do I put this... brutes with bigger fists than attention spans?" Pierre sighs, stepping towards Imp-Chan.
"As for you... either Lord Mortius has trust issues or you went back on your intent to stay home. Regardless, your mother ought to be proud of your antics."

 

"I wanted to see what was happening over here," Imp-chan confesses innocently, before thinking for a moment, "You know who my mum is?"
