Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

I shake my head.
“I know what a noodle is. They’re called noodle dragons because they kinda resemble a noodle. But no thanks, I’ll pass out if I eat now.”

 

"Why?" Katie asks as Abigail heads back into the kitchen. The sound of running water can be heard, as well as a curse before it shuts off.

 

“This little bugger. He just ate, which means I get to take it easy for a couple hours.” I say, petting Evion. “He’s a type of dragon called a nocturne, and they feed on blood. I assume you can figure out the implications of raising one.”

 

"Oh, so like when Artemis becomes a death guardian?" Katie asks cheerily.

 

“Yes, except they only feed off of others they trust. Which leaves me and his parents, and his fangs are too small to get through his parents’ scales.”

 

"How do they survive without a human around?" Katie asks, confused yet curious.

 

“Their parents usually catch a small rodent and inject their blood through that after sucking it dry to feed their young. They recognize things through blood at this age, which makes introducing him a literal pain.”

 

"Does it hurt a lot?" Katie asks, cautious.

 

“They have an anesthetic that helps, but yes. Yes it does.”

 

"Artemis' bites aren't really that painful. I think she's sorta like a mosquito where she numbs your neck before she bites it so you don't feel it as much." Katie says cheerily.

Abigail returns with a steaming bowl of noodles - tiny chopped up sausages hiding between them - with a fork protruding from it. Abigail gives Katie the bowl who happily accepts it and starts eating.

 

“Nocturnes numb their bites as well, the younger ones just aren’t good at not accidentally hitting a nerve with their second fang. Which means it feels like somebody severed my shoulder about every other week.”

 

"Do the older ones kill people?" Katie asks between bites.

"Couldn't you just get a syringe and take a sample of your blood?" Abigail asks.

 

“Sometimes they kill, but they usually stay fairly inactive to avoid needing to feed nearly as often as a young nocturne.” I say. “And no, a syringe wouldn’t work well. Their primary fangs act like straws of sorts; they don’t have throats.”

 

"That's...biologically weird." Abigail comments.

"They only need the nutrients from blood to survive?" Katie asks.

 

“And a few other fluids, but primarily blood. Juicy fruits go over well with them, but still mostly blood.”

 

"Do they ever have any trouble breathing?" Katie asks.

 

“I don’t think so? I haven’t noticed anything that would suggest that so far.”

 

"So they just breathe through their nostrils?" Katie asks.

 

I nod.
“They usually live in landlocked places, so drowning isn’t typically an issue.”

 

"So they never get to have fun on beaches?" Katie asks, sounding sympathetic.
