Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"I have dragons." I say. "And I've got charms to help you with that, but if a human can tolerate the heat then I'd think you would be safe."

 

"N-Not really..." Katie says, "Humans are sort of in the middle, while water guardians are on the colder side and fire guardians on the hotter side. I'm a lot more sensitive to heat."

 

"In that case, what games does she have? Again, I'm more into arcade style things. Or watching people play, that's always oddly entertaining."

 

"Well...there's one game I really like you could watch me play!" Katie says happily, dashing back into the living room and setting up one of the consoles.

 

“Alright then.” I nod, walking back to the living room as well.

 

Katie navigates through a few menus on the console, before starting one of the games and excitedly beginning to play. It seems to be a very artistic game, it's backgrounds and characters looking painted-on. The main goal appears to be to reach a door on the other side of the level, and the main mechanic revolves around reversing and manipulating time around specific elements that seem unaffected by it; remaining in the same state as time moves. Various collectible puzzle pieces remain trapped behind confusing looking puzzles, which Katie seems to spend a while trying to figure out.

 

"We'll give you your time."
I smile and nod before practically dragging Scurn out.

 

“Yes I know I fucked up you have a metal hand and your grip hurts like hell...” He says with a hushed tone, following you out.

I watch silently, though if Katie turns to me she may notice me getting slightly annoyed.

 

"No, you did fine, it's just time to leave."
I loosen my grip a tad.

 

You seem to have left a bit of a bruise.
"Really? Good..." He sighs, keeping close.

 

As you leave, the Shadow that was behind you enters at the instruction of the guard.

The palace feels free and open, guards dotted about as Shadows and Guardians roam the halls, attending to tasks or enjoying their time. A couple of elevators are visible to the far left and far right, allowing for easier access to parts of the palace.

"What's wrong?" Katie asks, "I...know I'm not the best at this..."

 

“What’s your deal with eating in this place?”
I ask as I walk off in no particular direction.

 

I shake my head.
"No, it's fine. I'm just overthinking things."

"Shadows. You know my stance towards them." He says in a hushed tone.

 

Katie pauses for a moment.

"Did...you want to play for a bit?" Katie asks, offering the controller.

 

I shake my head.
"Seriously, it's fine. I always do this, I just don't usually watch people play games in person."

 

Katie keeps playing, though tries to make an effort to play a little better. She ends up skipping puzzles that seem a little too difficult, though leaves a lot of collectibles behind in the process.

A while later, Abigail's front door opens - and closes - and the sound of footsteps ascending stairs can be heard.

 

“Fine. I didn’t bring any food, though, so good luck with that.”

 

"I didn't plan on eating."

"I'm sorry, I really didn't mean ill by that." I tell Katie, seeming increasingly annoyed with myself.

Evion hops off my shoulder when the door opens and scampers down to see who entered.

 

"What about sight-seeing? You much of a sight-seeing person?"

 

"No, it's fine. I probably couldn't complete those puzzles anyway, Abigail always helps me with them." Katie says, seeming positive.

Abigail seems to enter, though heads straight upstairs without bothering to glance in on Katie.
