"Stephanie can take you there. You're still friends with her, correct?" Eve asks.

 

"Of course."

 

"She's either in this reality's Gaia's realm, back at the Shadow Palace, or with Praecantatia and the others currently. I'd recommend searching the first two areas before going to Shadow Stephanie for assistance in getting in contact with her." Eve says.

 

"Does Shadow Stephanie have something better to do?"
I half-joke.

 

"She has to run most of the kingdom with the absence of Aj, but I've noticed both share the same sort of aversion to work," Eve says, "So no, not really."

Eve smiles, appreciating the humor.

 

“So... you keep dead babies?” Ihra asks, a bit put off.


“I’m not exactly the textbook definition of a good kid, but I at least try to be decent.”


“The chance of the war spilling into your realm is zero as long as Xlentia stands, we’re only getting pissed off because your gods are convinced otherwise. Out of concern for your own safety you’re forsaking your allies, and frankly a lot of generals speak of you as, and I quote, ‘obstacles’.”

 

"What? No," The faerie says, looking disgusted, "I need to clean this out, actually. But I shrink humans down and keep them in jars, like they do to my kind!"

"I was going to do it to you, but that was before I found out you weren't an enemy." The faerie says cheerily, smiling sweetly.


"Just don't kill anyone that isn't evil and you should be good." Abigail shrugs.


"Really?" Stephanie asks, surprised, "The hive master can't get through with Xlentia here?"

 

“She might threaten to kill me if I ‘waste her time’, though, so I’ll try Gaia’s place. Thanks for your help.”
I nod.

 

“You... would’ve died for that. My sister would’ve killed anyone here and sent their souls to null. She’s... super touchy with people who try to hurt me.” Ihra sighs. “Plus, I’m not sure if your magic would work on goddesses.”


“I don’t kill, that shit weighs on you.”


Rose gives Stephanie a deadpan look.
“You... have been told at least a dozen times. Yes, for the thirteen plus some, Xlentia acts as the gatekeeper between the rift and the Hive Master.”

 

Eve gives you a confused look.

"I doubt Shadow Stephanie would kill you for wasting her time. You're a friend of hers, she seems quite against harming her friends without good reason." Eve explains.

"Well, I suppose it'd take a goddess to make it this far alive." The faerie says, seeming unaffected by the potential threat of death.


"If you let it," Abigail shrugs, "Killing a burglar or someone who's evil to the core isn't exactly something that's going to haunt you. You did something right."

"It's important to keep your emotions in check too, though." Katie clarifies.


"Oh..." Stephanie says, sounding ashamed.

 

So... it turns out one reason I been gone for so long is because I never got a reply to this message above ^^.
But also a lot of personal stuff.
Think we could get back to it?

Ihra says nothing, seeming concerned.


“Right and wrong are used subjectively nowadays. I’d rather just avoid the mess entirely.”


“That being said, miss gatekeeper has more than a few holes in her body right now. I might see if you could get Mortius to release Xlentia’s soul before Emerald gets around to it, if you’re hoping to improve the relations you’ve mistakenly soured.” Rose suggests. “I’ll be here all day, I’m booked on Earth starting next week. Take your time.”

So, believe it or not (and I expect not), I thought you were the one who missed a reply.
No. It’s always me, why would I think it was you?

I straight up didn’t get an alert for this, I was wondering where you went. Turns out forums just ate stuff again.
Give me a day or two (I currently lack a bed - new one is in assorted boxes) and I’ll go back and refresh myself on where you were.
Sorry I’m still bad host.

 

"Do...you want anything while we're here? Maybe some tea?" The faerie asks.


"As the forest guardians see it, 'wrong' is out of balance with nature." Abigail says.


"Y-Yes, I'll see to that right away." Stephanie says, seeming a little down.

 

“No, I really do need to keep going. A reality-wide war waits for nobody.”


“I don’t understand the whole obsession with balance. I’m used to nature taking back control by wiping out the planet and starting over.”


“Don’t be too hard on yourself. You were sent to collect information, right? Wouldn’t you say you have information to relay?”

 

The faerie looks disappointed, before flying out of her home through the way she came in.


"That's basically it. Humans have disturbed the balance to the point that in order to weigh the scales back to equal, nature needs to re-take control." Abigail says.


"I guess I've been so wrapped up in my own stuff, I didn't realise Xlentia was the one keeping us all safe." Stephanie says.

 

“She got very close once. I don’t think she was serious, but the knife was right about here.”
I point very close to my neck.
“I don’t know what she will and won’t do.”

 

"I don't think she'd take a hostile stance against you currently, especially since you haven't seen each other in a while. She'd likely be happy to see you again." Eve theorises.

 

“Well, I’ll check in with her if I can’t find Stephanie.”

 

Eve nods, turning back to fixing the pylon.

 

Ihra follows her out.


“If balance dictates a swing of power, why hasn’t there been a full-on genocide yet?”


“If it makes you feel any better, none of your gods seem to have gotten any copies of that memo either.”
